New Stereo Integrity Mag / BM Proto Pictures!

Negative. You pwned the idmax with your stupidity. I'm glad you finally ended up with a sub that can handle your clipping and bad gain settings.
to stay on topic about the Mag, is there a cone pic?
negative~

your mom couldn't handle the clipping also. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I see you looking, Nick.
From a consumer standpoint, would it be worth the money to upgrade from 2 BM's, sealed in 1 cube, with 400wrms per sub, to 4 BM's in 2 cubes sealed with 400wrms per sub on tap? Solely in terms of output.
4 BM's with 400 watts. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Coupling affect alone will give you a huge gain in output. And the cool part about it is that 4 12" BM's only need 2 cubes total. I know that in your question power is the same, but when you have 4 drivers compared to 2 you typically gain a little more due to the drivers being so close to each other and there being so many (coupling affect).

Are these still going to be XBL^2 enabled drivers? While I admit that they dont "look" ascetically pleasing to me, if they are anything even comparable to the 3rd gen mag like Nick, Jim, and Chad have said I am willing to purchase a mag or two right now.

Second question...Is the BM going to be XBL^2 also?

Nick, if you see this just as Ive mentioned before, Id love to be the first non competitor/rep to purchase one. I have BIG SQ plans and would love to accommodate either a pair of mags or a pair of BMs.
I think someone already fielded this question but yes, the BM's and the Mag's are XBL^2 equipped. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif

We've got the Mag equipped with a copper anodized pole piece (anodized first and then diamond CNC'd down to the correct diameter), so along with all the benefits that XBL^2 alone offers we got the inductance down to 0.8 mH on the new Mag. Transient response is great - as Jim and Chad will attest, and the low end is better than the current Mag. No joke, the new Mag has more, cleaner, low end output in 1 cube sealed than the current Mag does in 2 cubes sealed.

The BM's have an aluminum shorting ring in the rebate, which lowers the inductance quite a bit over the first FEA analysis.

So both new drivers from SI have shorting rings in them. They are different due to one factor really - cost. We spared very little with the new Mag - hence the copper anodized pole piece instead of a copper sleeve. Copper sleeves have air gaps, where as anodization doesn't. The BM's shorting ring works really well and saves on cost compared to what we did on the Mag. Oh, and for people who are actually reading these pages, another cool thing about the new BM's is that they have a 10" spider on them and a cone glue joint area equivalent to a 5" flat circle. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

In the end both drivers have low inductance, stable BL motors. What that means to you (any customer) is cleaner, tighter, deeper, more consistent bass.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot about why I started to post - I think HHawk might be the first person to order a Mag after I open up ordering. There are a lot of people waiting to order, and he's hot on the trail to order a trio of Mag 12's to put in his Lexus. I want a few too, but he might get them before I do!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

neither... 1 BM
Haha...a single Mag will work great. However, so will a single BM. You'll be reaching the threshold of single BM but the Mag will be perfectly happy with 500 watts. Remember, I listened to the Mag for 3 weeks with 275 watts. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I may not get to be the first but I know want a pair when they are released (maybe 4, contemplating switching things up) and of course powered by Sundown all the way.

Release timeline?
x2 on this right here.

I am interested to see if someone goes extreme front stage and plops a pair of BM's in their front doors. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
I would if I could fit a 12" diameter speaker up there //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

to me they went for looks over performance...
or maybe they were thinking of making a sub more affordable(if they lower the price) and be in LARGE quantities, by that i understand is better to get bigger flashy baskets instead of a bigger motor with greater performances because they will cut down the cost of the motor tooling and they will save even more with those kinds of baskets buy alot more quantities from the manufacturers and make bigger profits...
I don't think you could be more wrong if you said, "The sky is bright yellow and it is raining anvils."

Big motor does not = SQ (so why would Nick use a bigger than needed motor?)

Goal for Mag = SQ (read above)

This basket does not = big and flashy (the driver is shallower than the prior model)

Also, do you understand the concept of a heat-sink? The basket is acting like a pretty big one -- the wrap around style has even more thermal mass. Helps keep the thermal compression down further once heat starts getting out into the motor / basket of the woofer.

In any event... you fail to understand even basic concepts of what is going on in this design. It has lower distortion than the previous Mag, it works better in sealed enclosures than the previous Mag, it goes lower than the previous Mag, it is more efficient than the previous Mag, has a far more advanced motor design, AND it costs less than the previous Mag. So where is Nick making "bigger profits" and going for "looks over performance"?!

What else did you want? To wipe your butt for you?
