New Stereo Install -Pics inside

I still want to paint the tweeter grill and base with the matching color of the door. I have been told that I can buy a spray paint that matches? Where do I go to find it?

Krown: Not sure what you are asking? The actually dash I did not have to change. I took out the little spacer that comes stock to make it a double din. Then I purchased a new dash plate (the ugly woodgrain based on some of the post above:) ) so I did not have half circle holes where the stock head unit controls were. Did that answer your question?
Yep, you got it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Dunno how much luck you'll have, but try looking here.

I know there are more opinions than just not liking the woodgrain. What would make my system better?

Bart

Put all that in a chevy. No really though you did one heck of a job with the install and the truck itself.

Install looks very good and nice choice of equipment. And I like the woodgrain dash. My Altima has the same thing which is the reason I'm building wood door pods.

As long as YOU like it that's all that matters...

Maybe its just the pics, but it doesn't look like the mat was rollered down on the doors very thoroughly. While it appears to follow the contours of the door well like it was laid down properly, Im just not seeing like any roller marks at all. And I am seeing what appears to be at least one major air bubble.

The install looks nice, good job with the stealth.

So you have a pair of mids in the front, two pair of tweeters in the front, and a pair of mids in the back? And you say you're a perfectionist. I never understood people running more than one set of tweeters in the front of a vehicle. Cancellation and sourcing issues would just be all over the place, aren't they? How is your imaging? And I really don't see the point of installing two pairs, then turning down the tweeters....why not just have one pair? I would think it would sound much cleaner. You should try it. 165 watts should be plenty to get loud, if that was your intention.

looks like a nice install so far, im just getting started on my 2500, so im sure ill have some questions for you about the dash set up and such.

you should be able to buy the matching spray paint at the dealer. i think it costs like $8 or something.

I am trying to figure out how to: 1. get a 3"or 4" focal and find a 3way crossover to make it a 3 way system or 2. start with a preamp and crossover before going to the amps. Not sure which would be better?

Any ideas?

Bart

My suggestion to you is spend more money......

As in get a sound processor, change the 300/4 for a 6ch amp then you can go with active crossovers. This would leave you with the ability to run ANY woofer-mid-tweeter combo. It would also let you experiment with crossover points and allow you to swap just the woofers or mids out.... Also you could run some big 8's in the doors and drop the subs down low, like 50hz or 60Hz and under which sounds better....

The equipment choice is nice though, I've demo'd utopia's and like them, but maybe they are just not your cup of tea... I don't know if you have plenty of money to be jumping around in the just short of $1000 speakers but there are good options from Rainbow (PM 6spdcoupe on here, he's an authed dealer) and Seas' Lotus line:

Rainbow (for reference only, get them from 6spdcoupe):

Seas Lotus Auth dealer:

And if you ever wanted to get silly about amp quality:

http://www.mobilesq.com/shop/index.php?cPath=26

You can also get the Rainbows and Seas Lotus in raw drivers (without the crossover) if you are already active and both Helix (made by Brax) and the DLS have a 6ch amp.

A couple install issues that might be causing problems too:

A) extra tweeters.... well if it sounds better then I guess keep 'em

B) If the mids are mounted behind a thick door panel, ie the mid is several inches from the grill that allows sound past the door panel, it could be ruining your off axis performance of the mid.... it is nice to see you properly setup the door for the mid installation (VERY few people on here bother, or even know how) but something more custom might be in order. You could use an MDF ring or two to raise the mid up closer to the door panel, or make the grill on the door much bigger (this would be hard to make it look good)..... or there may be something else you can do...

C) when determining sound quality DO NOT USE MP3's... you need either uncompressed audio such as FLAC or a good source CD... also remember the higher the recording budget the better the source.... so as much as I despise the human excrement that bono is bands like U2 are going to be better source CD's for determining SQ than say Slayer.... There are also a handful of audiophile test/show off CD's available from places like http://www.partsexpress.com

You could get a CDT Upstage set or just the crossovers which would cross the 2nd set of tweeters higher bringing your sound stage up and it would give you attenuation settings too.
