I bought the truck with 8700 miles. I hate the pinstriping. It is coming off next week.

The old dash:

I am running Focal Utopia 165W components. The 6.5" in the door with a little modding: speaker not in door yet here:

About the system: Put a new Yellow top Optima battery. 0 gauge power wire by JL Audio. The plan was to put 5.25 Focal Utopia component set in dash. It would take a little cutting but was not going to be a big deal. Got the 5.25" out and one had something sitting on top of it and would not fire

Tried JL 5.25" coaxial that I was going to put in the back door and it sounded terrible. More like a Jensen speaker that I would have used back in high school. So ended up putting the extra tweeter in the dash until I can get another 5.25". So I have the treble turned WAY down because it is too bright. The JL 5.25" ended up in the back doors. Don't sound too bad back away from the front focals. I have the fader almost 3/4 way to the front so I really dont have much coming out of them. Used dynamat extreme on the doors. I am really impressed with how solid the doors are. One of the most difficult things that was done was run the speaker wire to the door speakers. Trying to fish the new wire through the factory "speaker wire caseing" was a pain. Not sure what to call it. But finally with a little cutting all new speaker wire is run...Ran the power wire on one side of the truck and rca cable on the other. Everything was hidden as best as possible. Here is a picture showing some of the wires run under the carpet.

The sound quaility is good. Not great. I am a perfectionist so we have to do some tweaking. Not sure what yet but something. Suggestions?

A couple more thoughts...

I bought every adapter that the Kenwood supported. Bluetooth, Ipod adapter, TV tuner, USB input.

The bluetooth is nice. Handsfree while driving. Still have not figured out how to download my telephone phonebook from my Motorola Kzr.

Ipod is nice because I have almost 100 gb worth of music. So I don't have to carry all the cds...The Kenwood deck control everything on the ipod. I love the touch screen.

The TV tuner and antenna sucks. The antenna won't pick up my local tv stations. There has to be something that can be changed to pick up the local channels better.

Still haven't used the usb input.

The gps part of the unit is garmin based and I am still trying to figure it out.

I have an extra set of Focal tweeters in the dash. I am going to add an additional set of 5.25" Focals. I know for the purest you don't want sound coming from the front windshield but I like the fullness that it makes. Just my opinion. So I have my highs turned way down because I have two set of tweeters and only one set of mids.

I really don't like JL 5.25" coaxial. But I have the fader turned to the front so I really don't hear much from them. More like surround sound. They may end up getting changed?? But I really don't have much experience with coaxials and have never heard any that Focal makes.?? Not that all the speakers have to match but...suggestions? I know I don't want to try a component system in the back doors. It would be too much modding. If I would ever decide to mod I would like a 8" mid range to go in the front doors.

I still want to paint the tweeter grill and base with the matching color of the door. I have been told that I can buy a spray paint that matches? Where do I go to find it?

Did you have to replace the dash like that to put a headunit in?

Overall, I agree with the rest. Nice truck and install.

Krown: Not sure what you are asking? The actually dash I did not have to change. I took out the little spacer that comes stock to make it a double din. Then I purchased a new dash plate (the ugly woodgrain based on some of the post above:) ) so I did not have half circle holes where the stock head unit controls were. Did that answer your question?

I know there are more opinions than just not liking the woodgrain. What would make my system better?
