New speakers on OLD amp ? Quarts on Alpine

When I first power on my system the Alpine amp powers up red for a second and then goes green. It also runs pretty dang hot when I have volume cranked. When I have the volume down to zero I can hear "amp noise" like kind of a hiss?

Im running MB Q PVI216 off my Alpine 3555 4ch amp. I believe its a a/b amp ? not real sure.

Are these speakers compatable with the amp ? I am using the crossover that came with the speakers and I have the amp bridged 2 channels.

No, the speakers aren't compatible, don't you know that when the government did that DTV conversion they threw in a Digital Speaker Signal conversion in the law and all new speakers need new digital receivers?

That was sarcasm. Anyway, yes the speakers are compatible. Check all your wiring and ventilation. And make sure your gain knob is set right. How badly do your lits dim when your music goes?

Amp noise can be coming from the amp or the headunit, or a faulty RCA. Most likely bad ground on your amp is causing the overheating and the noise.

While you're at it, take a multimeter and check the resistance on the speakers. Just disconnect the speaker wires from the amp and check for the resistance between the pos and neg wires on each channel. Should be about 4 ohms, if it's lower that's your problem.

lol thanks for the help bro!

I will take my (analog) multimeter to the speaks right now.

I dont know why I didnt think about that !

I reran my amp ground and it GREATLY improved heat.

I disconnected my head units harness when I hooked my 4 ch amp up so the Bose amp and sub would not turn on.

If I could control that sub I might would use it for midbass maybe?

I have 2 runs of 4 awg to both amps.

Gain is on 1/2 way mark on the Alpine 4ch and lil more than 1/4 on the Kicker mono.

My lights dimm a little but not much.

Ive done the BIG 3 except for the engine block ground. (just realized I didnt upgrade that block !!!)

Keep in mind that because you bridged the amp at 4-Ohms, you will generate more heat.

It's the same as running 2-Ohms stereo per channel.

Most multi-channel amps are capable of 4 & 2-Ohms stereo and 4-Ohms bridged but just as well, many amps will have heat issues at 2-Ohms stereo or 4-Ohms bridged.

Hopefully your amp has thermal protection and will shut down if it reaches dangerous temps.

Ive swapped amp with known good one and everthing is fine so ill be taking the cover off the amp after all. Im afraid to look inside lol.

What year were the Alpine 3555 sold ?
