New Sound System for '02 Cavalier

Hey guys, I just bought a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier, and am looking at putting in a good sound system within the next few months. I've picked out a couple parts from the Future Shop website which I want, but was wondering if I could get some advice from people that aren't employees.

Headboard:

Pioneer DEH-P5100UB

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0665000FS10122114&catid=28438&logon=&langid=EN

(I have no clue how much it will cost for the harness and what not, maybe someone else can tell me??? I really want to know what expenses I'd have to pay to get this installed other than for the Deck and Installation)

Front Speakers:

Pioneer 3-Way 4" x 6" TS-A4672R

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10085203&catid=

Rear Speakers:

Energy 6" x 9" 3-Way Coax ENC693X

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10088303&catid=

Subwoofer:

MTX 12" TCE512A

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10085250&catid=

Amp:

MTX 2-Channels TC4002

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0665000FS10074472&catid=11031&logon=&langid=EN

(I think this is a good one, but I have no real knowledge amp-wise)

Please let me know if you think I should make changes at all, or if something isn't right. I want to keep this system to a fairly low price, and won't be buying it all at once (likely the deck first, and then the sub & amp at a later time, and speakers last (gotta save for university too)).

Thanks for the time guys!

Welcome to the forum.

I'd recommend you do some searching around here first to get acquianted, most likely you won't want that stuff anymore //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif.

You should state what your goal is in your system as well- do you want spl or sq?

There are much better setups you can get for those prices...particularly the sub/amp.

What is your maximum budget?

The deck is good. I know that once you have all that stuff you might have trouble hearing the 4x6 in the doors. Maybe go larger like 6 1/2's. Not too sure about the Energy 6x9's never heard them. For the subs and sub amp, You can get better deals than that for that price. All depends on how LOUD you want to go. and how much trunk room you want to give up. Seems like you want to run two amps. I would run all the power wire now while you have the deck installed, (are you doing it yourself?) Let us know. Take pics so we can see whats up if you think you need help from this site.

I just did my sons 99 cavy.. Do yourself a favor get a good 6.5" comp set and have 3/4 mdf baffles cut.. Screw the rear fill and the 6*4 fronts. You will thank me later. Just get a hole saw and make a hole in the door for the 1" tweets like I did and it will sound great. Then get yourself a nice sub and call it good. He runs 2 amps and it sounds great. We did sound deadening to the doors and I do recommend that also.

I really have limited resources as to obtaining parts, and I am NOT going to import them or pay any shipping charges. I just want something simple, and straight up, that sounds good. You guys can look at the future shop website to get a feel for what I have to work with, because that and Best Buy are the only 2 stores here that really sell car audio.

As for the comment about getting larger speakers, that's a no-go as the cavalier can only take 4x6 in the doors, and I'm not about to go paying extra to get the mouldings carved. Really, I just want a pretty decent sub, and an amp to power it and the speakers.

Not really limited source as you have a computer and plenty of places ship to Canada.

Hit up sonicelectronic or onlinestereo.com and see what they have to offer. I don't think shipping charges would kill you that much.

I had an 02 cavy with a pretty budget setup and it sounded fantastic! Also you don't have to do much modding of the doors to fit a good componet set up front. I used 6.5" with a 1" tweeter and it came out fine. Just had to make a simple MDF ring for it and was good to go.You will get much better sound from a comp set over a 4x6".

Also try to do this yourself to help save money. Is really not that hard, just time consuming and need patience. A lot of people will help you on here if you run into a snag.

This is my suggestion, take it or leave it I guess.

Alright, so I just got my deck installed in the other day, works amazingly well.

I've been looking at onlinecarstereo.com and am finding stuff WAYYYY cheaper. However, I do have a specific question.

Right now, I'm thinking about replacing all 4 speakers (2 front and 2 rear). I need to know what amp to get which will adequetly power all of them. The front will be 4x6, and the rear 6x9. However, I also may get a sub in the future, so I'm wondering if I'd need another amp to power that, or if I could run a 4 channel to power it all. Please refer to amps you think would be suitable on the onlinecarstereo.com site if you can please, and link it if possible.

Thanks.

as others have said forget the 4x6 up front, get a 6.5" they will fit. polk db651 coaxial will blow away some pioneer 4x6, and fits with a simple 1/2 mdf baffle

Do as we have said. It will save you money over getting 4*6 and 6*9's and sound SO much better. Just get comps or do more research before you waste money.
