I finally have about 120$ in paypal, so i can finance a new surround sound reciever - obviosly, its not going to be that fancey at all, but im dirt poor, im looking at ebay deals and stuff, so recommend stuff thats either about 120 new or i might be able to get for around that on ebay.

I absolutely need two digital inputs, 5.1 channel, and just the basics otherwise, decnt sound quality ect.

Im running a sony STR-de515 that i got at a yard sale for 5 bucks right now- it has no digital inputs.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif other than that i dont haev alot of gripes with it...Except a humm when its connected to the computer...im not sure whats causing it.

well i ended up winning a Onkyo Tx-ds575 for 82$... it has the digital inputs i need, and from the looks of it it was a pretty nice reciever a while ago, it retailed for like 600$, And it looks like it has a nice remote, decent power, and niec adjustments:yumyum:

hopefully if will work for me for a while:veryhapp:

now i can hook up my computer with optical and mydvd with digital

i personally run an onkyo receiver for my main surround system, so i can honestly say you won't be disappointed.

for $82, as long as it's in good shape, it should be a nice unit. sounds like it will offer you everything it sounds like it needs to.

you did good for yourself loosing that kenwood auction.

that yamaha would not have been a bad buy, but i'm an obvious fan of onkyo.

yeah the onkyo is in perfect shape, and even has the remote and manuals with it:veryhapp: so i think it should be a good purchase.

Onkyo's are nice, but that unit doesn't have DPL2 which is much better at decoding stereo sources than old DPL

If it were me I would have gotten this:

Pioneer VSX-516-K

700 watts of total power: 100 watts x 7 @ 8 ohms, 1kHz, 1% THD; Pioneer Hybrid Amplifier design
Surround sound decoders: Dolby Digital EX, Pro Logic II, DTS, DTS-ES Discrete 6.1, Neo:6 and 96/24; 9 DSP modes

Windows Media Player 9 Pro decoder lets you play content from your computer in 7.1-channel surround sound

Midnight listening mode allows you to listen to surround sound at lower volumes so loud sequences won't disturb others

Other features include virtual surround back mode, dialog enhancement and auto surround

High-performance 192kHz/24-bit digital-to-analog conversion for all channels

Inputs: 3 audio, 3 A/V, 2 coaxial digital audio, 1 optical digital audio, composite video, 2 component

Outputs: 1 audio, 1 A/V, 1 video, audio preamp, composite video, 1 component video, headphone

Includes remote
It is $200 - $100 MIR and there is also a 10-12% coupon for BB floating around making it about the same price you paid

well i got the onkyo on tuesday, got it all set up, easy setup, nice unit, great sound, the features i need, i deem it a good buy.

I watched a few DVD's on it, in the last few days and it sounds great! i love hearing arrows whizing acros my room, and the thunder of horses and whatnot, its good stuff.

It also has an "5 Channel Stereo" thing for automatically expanding stereo sources across all 5 channels, good for my 2 channel computer applications and stuff.

The remote is nice too, its a beast, and controls all my junk.

OH!!! and the best of all, the buzz is gone!! my old reciever when you turned up the volume ther would be a low buzz...very annoying.
