please don't be tricked into spending a fortune for good bass results in an e36
I've got the same car (e36 coupe) and last year my installer (drives an e46) took his sealed enclosure with an Eclipse Aluminum 12 out and put it in my e36.......
the car came with a crapbox and an amp from a company I never heard of "performance teknique" so we junked the crapbox and bridged the pt crap amp and guess what, his eclipse aluminum sounded clean and rattled the cabin with 350 watts.....................
only reason I didn't buy the enclosure from him was because money was tight and gas was climbing (NYC guy here).................
you can get a new crossfire vr600d on
ebay for around $250+ and it's a great little amp, it should be more than enough for you at 4ohms let alone 2
as far as subs, I know you have researched the bigger companies but I'm a fan of the lil guy who still picks up the phone instead of having you respond to an automated service (lol) so I'll just throw these guys out there.............

as far as the enclosure, if you have money to spare a dude on bimmerforums posted this enclosure a few weeks ago
, the shop that made it for him wants $400 without the gelcoating, paint, etc. and it goes in the corner above the battery tray, I think it's a steal for the $$$ especially if you don't spend an arm & a leg on an overhyped sub
either way it's interesting to read another e36er's thoughts on audio so keep us posted
p.s. hope this wasn't too bad for a 1st post, I just found this forum
