nice laptop, but i think sony sucks and would never buy a sony product

every product they sell, in every electronics category is overpriced compared to comparable brands, you just pay extra for the name

People have really skewed views about Sony. They really aren't THAT overpriced and generally speaking, have the more stylish looks in electronics. IMO they have the absolute best TVs (Bravia FTW!) and usually deliver for the price. Yes, they cost a little more, but it's usually worth it.

That being said, the laptop you have is GREAT for the price. Just over $1100 for C2D and 2GBs of RAM is a very good price and isn't overpriced at all. It should handle anything you need it to superbly short of CAD programs or gaming.

Seems like a decent machine as long as you won't be playing any middle to high end games. Integrated video memory and slow hard drive ftl. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Sadly integrated plagues almost all laptops these days. However, IDK if you've heard about Intel's new X3100 integrated chip, it's supposed to be pretty rad. Then again, the new Santa Rosa platform includes a minimum of an 8400GT I believe, which is not GREAT, but still pretty good for a laptop.

My new Dell Precision M90 comes with a Quadro FX 2500M

512 mb dedicated vRAM. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif

What is this Santa Rosa I keep hearing about, btw?

It's just a new platform by Intel that integrates the new C2D chips (you can tell the new from the old because the new chips have odd model numbers like 5500 and the old have 5600), wireless N which is the new fastest wireless standard, and a DX10 chip, which as of now the lowest is an 8400GT (or maybe 8400GS, not sure if nvidia made it yet). Supposed to save a little more power too, but I think that's just marketing.

Basically it's the new slightly better line up. I'm pretty sure that when they get DX10 drivers for their X3100 mobile GPU that will be the defacto standard for laptops. It's actually a really cool design because Intel made it "upgradeable" with new drivers which means over time it actually becomes more powerful. It's already seen 3-4 major upgrades in its life, but it's just now getting to be a popular chip in laptops thanks to price reductions.

That's a nice laptop you got there, what field are you in? Lot's of CAD work?

I actually do not work on them. I work in the roadshop at cc.
