I recently upgraded to DSL highspeed internet and then bought a wireless router for my laptop. The internet is great for surfing the web but downloads are only about 40 kbps off of qj.net. And i tried to download the same file with the same internet connection at my house on my old computer connected directly to the router and it downloaded at well over 100 kbps. What could be wrong. My laptop is much faster than the desktop although still not fast compared to some standards. Any ideas?

Other computer sharing the same router and taking up some of the resources? Wireless router not as fast as harwire?

Someone else borrowing your wireless signal and slowing it down?

Well the desktop is old and never used i just plugged it in and connected it to see if it would download faster. My wireless network is secured with WPA and have tried with the laptop hard wired too. Are there any settings or anything that could make this happen? Could it be a hardware limitation of the laptop?
