Marketing ads on cell phones???

Was lookin through our local newspaper website and came across this article out of New York.

They are basically saying that sooner than later, marketers will be able to direct ads to your cell phone for stores in the same proximity you are. Pretty much if you are outside a starbucks you could get an ad on your phone for a starbucks offer.

IIRC it was already passed that telemarketers could call you on your cellphone...seems like its just one step further.

Sad thing is, if its a text message youre charged per use, same as the phone call...the call however you can opt to not answer.

Fudged up either way. You could be charged because the phone provider gave out their phone database.

I don't have cable TV....atleast I don't nor wouldn't pay for it.

I get around the ads. For instance, when I am browsing now, I see no ads at all.

I don't like TV. I watch about 5 hours of TV per week. Maybe 2 hours I cannot get local. So I am out 2 hours of TV. Big deal.

Still, the difference is a lump sum (of commercials and programming) vs. the incremental cost of text messages.

I haven't turned on my TV yet this year. I watched the National Championship game last night downstairs though.
