Hello all I am new here and need some advice about subs. I want to add a sub or two to my factory system. I want something that sounds good. Im not all about competition. I listen to rock mostly punk and rarely R&B or Rap. I have a 2005 ford superduty crewcab so my box options and sizes are limited. I am builing the box myself as i have done this on the last 5 vehicles. I will only have a 4.5" mounting depth. Should I go with a single 8", 10" or duals. I was looking at the kicker comp. 8" with a 4.34 mounting depth or a jl audio 10w1. I have a kenwood 600 watt amp that I was going to run them with. If you professionals on here could give me some advice as well as some speaker choices since my last truck I used my old Punch 10"s. Just looking to upgrade!!! Thanks in advance, Eric.

**EDIT:** I did read the "read this first" and know there is no best speaker but I am looking for opinions. Also How does everyone feel about shallow/flat mount subs??

Here is the truck it will go in.....

if you put a lot of power behind that stealthbox, they sound great. i know an installer from a shop that has the same truck as you with the single 10" in the stealthbox, and it sounds great. the biggest local JL dealer, the owner has a stealthbox in the exact same truck as you too. i am not a huge fan of the stealthboxes, but the one in that truck sounds super clean and gets fairly loud.

I dont want a stealth box since the only one available for mine is under the seat in the fron bench and I wanted to hide the amp. I am going to build a box that goes behind the rear seat that is either 30" wide for a single or 56" wide for the dual setup.

you dont have the floor mounted center console?

There are some on ebay for the 4 ohm kicker eights for $55 each or $99 for two 2 ohm. Again I dont know which will be better. The amp is a older kenwood 600 watt amp with 2 channels but I will bridge it to one. Im assuming its a 4 ohm amp as its not competition but I dont even know if the 2 ohm's are for competition or not.....Sorry newbie here to understanding good speakers!!

you should fiberglass you a box behind and under the rear seat to give you the most room but its you choice. now as far as to get 2 ohm or 4 ohm you will need 4 for sure. also maybe look into some image dynamic idqs. they would be perfect for this. either 2 8s or maybe even 2 10s.
