New enclosure = leakage

So i built some boxes for my new 15's. They leak. I know this because I hear hissing when I push down on the cones. Is a little leak acceptable/normal? It sounds like it is coming from around the sub and not anywhere in the box...what can I do to stop this?

Op did you seal up the box with liquid nails? If you had the wood cut at a place like lowes where the cuts are usually off and you didn't seal it up you probably have an air leak at a joint

clear silicon is your friend

as above.......

i dont know why anyone would use glue, its a brittle fixing..... strong maybe but brittle

subs by their very nature vibrate, a glue seal will crack away, whereas silicone has some give, sticks like snot & keeps an airtight seal...

oh.... & clear silicone sticks far better than white or brown.

I gooped all the edges and corners with layers of liquid nails. I'm sure that none of the edges are leaking. I know one of the mounting holes was pretty rough but the other one I though was alright. I may try re-doing them as I'm getting tons better with each one I do. Also, I'm pretty sure the subs are secured down well, but if they arn't it could only be due to the mounting hole not being right.

If you are afraid your enclosure leaks, just go to Lowes and get a gallon of resin and a few bondo trowels.

Mix/pour the resin onto each wall of your enclosure and smooth it out w/ the trowels. Then, lean each corner up at a 45degr. angle and pour some resin there.

This whole process will take several hours, but cost no more than $40.

EDIT:

If your enclosure leaks after taking these precautions....

A) Your sub is not sealing against the baffle...add weather stripping round the sub ID (or learn to cut the ID of a sub correctly)

B) Your baffle is flexing (add bracing to the baffle).

C) You can't build an even relatively squared enclosure for chit, and need to just pay a professional to build a proper enclosure for you.

Lol. I'm 90% sure that the box is leaking around the woofer though. Would carpeting the box help pick up seal it up? I plan on scrapping these boxes cuz they ****, so I'm wondering if I should bother carpeting the boxes. I don't care how it looks but if the carpet makes it easier to seal then I'm all over it.
