New Boxes for RL-P's - worklog

actually he's building two of the same boxes so it will be easier to put into his trunk.
Ding Ding....we have a winner //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Only way I can cram 6^3 into the trunk of an Altima.

Got the second one built and the glue is drying. WAY too cold to take the first one out to the garage and finish sand it before staining, so it'll have to wait until tomorrow.

Impressive how many box builds are going on right now. Going to be a LOUD summer...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

Well I got the new boxes in. Have a few more pics, but too lazy to upload them right now. NOT a show install, but functional.

Only played it for about 10 minutes tonight and it seems louder to the ear, but also doesn't hit as low. Which is what I was expecting. Now I just have to play a bunch of songs and see if I like it.

Boxes have to be 15+ pounds lighter each, so that's a plus as they're a LOT easier to get in/out of the trunk.

mediocre at best.
If people would quit leaving exposed edging and using 45*miters they would look much better, IMO...

oops, just gave away my secret of my newest builds //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif

Its all good though:)

Here's my impression of the higher tune so far:

Definitely seems to have more punch during kick drums, but it's not as deep and doesn't seem to have as much impact as before. On some songs I really like it, but on others it seems almost hollow or lacking compared to the 30Hz tune. The sound seemed fuller before on certain songs and the subs definitely blended better with my front stage and overall I liked the sound better.

Think I'm going to yank them out tonight and lengthen the ports for a 32Hz tune. If that doesn't get me the best of both worlds then I'll go back to the original 30Hz boxes.

It's only time/testing at this point and I wanted to find out the difference of a low tuned vs high tuned box. At this point I'd have to vote for tuning for the flattest response, but I'm going to see what 32Hz will do since it's pretty much in the middle of the suggested low/high points.

Lengthened the ports and added an "L" to make the tune 32Hz and drop the size to 2.7^3. Waiting for the bondo to dry that I used on the seam where the wood is butted together.

Guess I'll know tomorrow if 32 is the magic number. I sure hope so as I'm digging the stained/poly coated BB boxes.

Got a few more pics.

Bracing that is wedged/glued in place.

Forgot to order binding posts, so wire through the ports will have to do. No one will see it anyway as they're forward firing into the cabin and the opening is covered with speaker cloth.
