New Box in 2000 Durango

My current box is falling apart at the seams and I am having trouble finding out the required tuning frequency and best dimensions for the room I have.

I have two 12" Kicker CompVR subs with a Fosgate T600-2 rear fired with the port rear facing as well. I would like to get higher SPL's and would like to use the room I have in an SUV. My current box is 36"x18"x18". 40" is about as wide as my durango will support.

I would think after all sub/port displacement your already around the optimal enclosure size. You can tune higher to get more spl, but your best bet is to change up your equipment to better quality items.

I would do away with the dual skinny port setup and do a larger single port. You would be amazed at the sound/spl difference.

I'm just confused on which would be the best location for the port (upfired, rearfired, etc.) and for the drivers.

I would do one of two options. You can do subs up and port back or subs/port back. You could also do port to the side with the subs up or back if you wanted. I would do one of the first two options myself.

I think I'm going to end up doing subs up port back. RAM Designs has plans for a Durango but it's only 4ft^3 and tuned to 33hz and I would think my current box is at least 5-6.

If you plan on adding a little more power in the future, there's nothing wrong with 4 ft^3 net. I'd say 5+ is too big.

It is more then likely around 5-6 before any displacements. After you take out port/wood/sub/bracing you will be right at 4ft3
