Hello all, new here but this looks like a great site. I need some opinions. I have an 04 F-150 supercab. I'm running a Pioneer Premium head unit, 1 farat digi cap, PPI DCX1500.1 powering a 13W7 (picked them both up for $1,200 new, good deal I thought). Prior to that I was only running two JL 250.1 amps to 2 Digital Audio DALUM 10s and just wasn't happy with the sound. I'm building a custom box that is going to be going from the center hump in the back, right behind the center console, and will be going up and tapering back level with the top of the back seat. Kinda hard to explain, but I will try and scan some rough pics of the sketch after work. Anyway, what I'm wanting to do is run one of my JL 250.1 amps to a good 8" mid-high bass driver and mount it on the lowest part of the box, which will be on the floor and have it fireing backward. Not sure if I should go ported or sealed. Then I'm going to have the W7 mounted at about a 45 deg angle fireing into the seat. I'm going to port it, but not exactly sure where I'm going to have the port aimed. I'm thinking at the top of the box fireing backwards just above the backrest, but then again I don't want to blow out my back window either.lol I've heard great things about the W7, but have yet to experience it for myself, so not exactly sure what to expect. My logic behing building this two in one box is to save space by having both the 8" and 13w7 mounted together, and also the way I'm making the box will allow me to mount the huge amp directly to the box matching the 45 deg angle and also leaves room to mount the JL250 to it and the cap on top. I will be able to run all the wireing internally, so it will be a clean look and install as well. I'm thinking of using some heavy duty 3/4" + plexiglass in areas also with some backlighting to set it off and run them to a toggle up front. The other problem I'd have hooking it up like that is running ground wires. Having the cap and amps that far off the ground would make for a pretty long ground....at least 5'+. Is there a work around for that so you can still get a good ground, or should I not worry about it?
I've seen a few threads where people were asking about a good 8" driver, so I appologize for asking whats been asked before, but I'm not looking for a 130+ db 8", just something to pick up where the W7 leaves off on the upper bass notes. I'm not looking to spend several hundred on it either. Just something that would pair up with the JL 250.1 nicely.
Thank you for taking the time to read my winded post and I'm open to any and all ideas/opinions/advice/tips. I've been around car audio a long time, but always dealt in the lower end items. This is my first time taking a shot at a system worthy of being proud of and testing. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/inlove.gif.6846f78f06b405429ef3a00129788a2a.gif
I'll try and get that diagram up so that the box I'm trying to describe will hopefully make more sense....
