New Amp? Recommendations

Right now I have a Sony Xplod XM-405EQX powering Image Dynamics' CTX65CS and Memphis MC84 8" Sub.

I have the amp wired in 3 channel mode which gives me 100W max per channel at 4ohms.

I am extremely happy with how the ID components sound, but would like the sub to hit a little harder.

Now I have a cheapie Dual 300W amp sitting around that I could use to power the sub but it would take some work.

Would it be better to get a new 3 channel amp, or use my two older amps?

There is one caveat, the new amp would require an equalizer as I don't use a head unit. I plug my Zune directly into my amp.

About 2-3 hundred dollars, but if it's worth spending more then I can/will. I want something reliable, that I can turn up without fear. (pending gains set up properly, etc...)

One thing is that I don't have a head unit and don't want one. What else will I need? An equalizer?

Sense you have really nice speakers and a crappy sony amp even upgrading to a alpine amp would produce better sound.

I love audison and image dynamics amps they are great but expensive. The alpines are great budget amps. Also look at focal amps. Trust me they are all worth it that I suggested, if you can find one without paying retail JL is good but I would never pay the retail price as they are over priced.

To clean up your stock sound signal and send a clean balanced signal to your new amps grab yourself a MTX RE-Q 5.

Thanks for the suggestions, but the newer Audison and Image Dynamic amps are too far out of my budget. Although I saw the SRX4 for $270. I'd bridge it to 3 channels.

What do you think about the Crescendo amp posted earlier? C1000C4 4 Channel Amp I've heard really good things about them.

Those are the two Amps I"m debating between. I tend to lean towards sound quality.

As for the RE-Q 5, Don't you have to have a radio to use that?

My setup is odd, I don't have a head unit/radio at all. I plug my Zune straight into the Amp. There is nothing else in between.

Your money would be well-spent on a head unit. This ipod business is sketchy at best.

I have a Miata (convertible) I've already had 2 head units stolen. My trunk is the only secure place in the entire car; which is where I have my amp and Sub located.

After looking more into the RE-Q5, it accepts auxiliary input. It's exactly what I was looking for. Thanks bigaudiofanatic!

I decided to go with the Audison SRX 4 because it's smaller, I've heard excellent reviews, and partially because of the name. I'm also going to pick up a RE-Q5 to go in between my Zune and Amp.

Thank you everyone for all of your help.
