New 12" Alpine Type X help

alrite i have a New Type X Sub, it has 3000 peak watts and 1000 watts rms, i thought that 2000 being around the middle would make it hit hard but not sure. ive been told that if hooked up properly 1000 watts would be enough. and also dont know what would be louder and sound better between a ported box and a sealed box i think personaly a ported box would be better because im putting it in an suv can anyone help me out?

1. Peak is about as accurate as a blind kid shooting a gun

3. The basic rule of thumb is Sealed = SQ & Ported = Loud

now, ported boxes can produce excellent SQ. and sealed boxes can be loud. but in all applications except for lack of space. i would recommend a proper ported box

Ported will be louder, however the type x is not really a "loud" sub, dont give it more than 1000w in a ported enclosure.

1000rms is continuous power...pay attention to that not the peak wattage. so something around 1000-1200rms i would suggest.

Not sure about the new ones, but the older ones would get stinky off 1200rms in my buddys civic.

Sound good though and was in a sealed box.

I have heard plenty of ported boxes sound SQ'ue though and heard sealed boxes that got extremely loud.

I say if space is an issue, then sealed, if not port the bish!

The type-X is a SQ oriented sub. Realistically type-R's wil get louder, and from the sounds of it you have an SUV and you want to get loud (ported)...but you have a SQ sub that will shine sealed...

Only thing I would reccomend would be either, just go saled...or sell the Type-X's and get something else. Thats just my opinion, I have never heard a type-X ported...just doesnt make sense to me :/

type x ported is where it's at. it still is very clean.

i have the old and new ones. the old one does get stinky when i put the joose on it. but it has always done that, and it still gets down so i'm not stressing it.

I have a type X 12inch in a ported box running off an MA Audio Hk2000d, slams pretty nice. Not that deep deep bass, but it sounds nice and clear.

The type X will shine in a sealed box BUT...a 2.5 cb ft box (before displacement) port tuned @ 32 hertz with 1000+ wrms sub up port back is what I'm suggesting. It all comes down to what kind of sound you're looking for. If you want all out SQ...go sealed. If you want SQL...then my suggestion is where its @.
