Never underestimate rice burners....

And if you are correct, those things spit out a whole bunch of shit. So if he had it in his engine compartment (before the turbo) then everytime he used his turbo, that would mean he would have a wonderful time cleaning when he got home. Just doesnt seem very logical, spitting all that shit directly into his engine.

Hey man, theres prolly more than one place that makes these things, so chill. I just quoted what I had heard when I had talked to shops and to people who have experiences with these things.

And "all that shit" would just have been fuel, and last time I checked, it wasnt bad to get fuel in your engine..

It's not that hard as someone pointed out, its just a butterfly valve. the clank the guy was talking about was probably just an old bearing or broken seal He's coming into the shop next week, I'll try to grab some pics of his motor and how, exaactly, he did it.

Seriously, I dont know what ya'll dont understand. Inbetween the exhaust manifold, and before the turbo, theres a butterfly valve. when he intially reved, his exhaust went through his crappy exhaust. When we heard that clanking sound, it was him switching his exhaust flow through the turbo and down his downpip with a 6 inch long "tail-pipe" that redirected it. If you want some pics, like I said, I'll try to stop him when he comes in the shop later.

Its one of those " ill believe it when i see it" deals.

Im not doubting you, but id still like some pics //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

O yea and about the crappy driver and car questions....yes the driver was crappy, I'm sorry, not used to our new clutches yet. Our start wasn't half bad, but he definitly got the jump, he must have noticed when the other side of the light turned red. Had it been the track, I would have been ashamed of myself. And the tires were Dunlop street tires, I wanted BF radials. So yes, they most likely were not adequate...(sorry i can't speel)

As for the car, yes its overrated, probably only around 740 somethin, we'll dyno it later, but the torque's up there. we've re-enforced the whole backend and motor compartment. Earlier in the year, those areas seemed to get torqued out of posistion , blow welds etc.

I dont know all the details, I just know he kicked our ***. I dont know when PCV and EGR valves came standard on vehicles, But they usually redirect the unspent fuels.

"that was the by-pass on the exhaust, you cant hear jacks**t until that switch is flipped. Took me forever to work it out. Cuts out right before the turbo so no blow-off valve, wastegate, or turbo whine. Just the sound of a crappy exhaust to hide the beast in front of it." We kindly responded....How would you like a job.....
K, I dont know turbos incredibly well, but I'd like to think I know more than a little..

Are you saying he had a pipe in front of his turbo, on the inlet, that he can switch to allow air to get to his turbo or not to?

Im lost.. He needs a wastegate...

OR are you saying he has a seperate pipe coming from his header than he can either switch to go to the turbo, or go to the crappy exhaust? And when he switches the switch, it goes to the turbo, and acts as a turbo'd car?

Basically that'd just be a butterfly in the exhaust manifold w/ a seperate exhaust. IF I'm right that is.

I say GN's are the best cars ever made..... lol Idk where that came from but yeah...

I work for a local performance shop as a machinist and we just got done a restoration and build-up of a 1968 Camaro Z/28. Things sweet, black with white racing strips with the bright red z28 logo. We threw in a 502 big-block, and long story short, built it up to **** near 800 horse at the rear. We've takin it to the track a few times for 'Test & Tune', more like 'Drink and Race', and have run consistent low 10's. So now we thought we had something. And now were on our maiden voyage on the street.
..

ok..ok....near 800hp at the wheels??? (yeah i know u said more like 740)

with that much power...wow...

the turbo thing....if he's running a cut out before he's turbo...he's running awful rich all the time too......unless he's got a seperate fuel managment system...and even then i doubt it would work. he'd have to be able to regulate two seperate fuel pressures, and one as boost builds....he'd still need a wastegate or blowoff valve as after he "won" the excess pressure as to go somewhere...and what about air restriction when the turbo isn't being used? does he have two seperate inlets as well? to whoop 700hp he's gotta be intercooled..so that means without the turbo..the air is just vacuumed in thru the filter, intercooler, turbo and throttlebody. that's a lot of shit to go thru without the turbo being able to spool and forcefed it to the motor...so now he's running even richer..right?

i duuno....i gotta see pics too......i'm also going to ask my gn/turbo expert friend (he's got an 87 turbo t that runs 12's and an 86 gn he's parting out) and he's other turbo friend (he's got an 90 something 300zx that's in the process of a jap motor twin turbo engine swap and his dad has a 86 gn that runs 10's and an 86 gn that runs 12's. his uncle has a gn that taps the mid 9's and it's in the process of getting full tubs and caged..they are going for the low 8's) and i'll see what they have to say about it as i'm no turbo expert. i just know what they have explained to me. i'll try to get some pics of their cars too.....

find the last pic in the pic section here... . that's the 12 second grand national owned by the salesman's dad (the salesman owns the 300z)

i'll post what i find out...

must be an oklahoma thing. you cant possibly be serious

i live in IL and i'd have to agree as far as muscle cars are concerned. gn's are just too kewl and have way too much potential, if that's possible.

and i'm a vette guy....

I doubt he really cares how well the car runs without "activating" his turbo. To have that much more of a difference b/w the 2 would just surprise the other person even more.

i saw a 97 Civic Hatchback keep up with a 99 Viper //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Viper ran a 10.87 just to let you know

Civic had an Integra LS engine turbo'd

Hyundia's are really slow cars. and my knowledge of a wastegate is = that it controls the amount of boost ( p.s.i.)and it is a let-off for the boost from the turbocharger. What would happen if you did not have a BOV (or a wastegate, but thats another story),..well When you let off the gas, there would still be positive manifold pressure and it would cause an extreme lean out condition, which would most definitely burn a piston...having no BOV would not make a car run lean though. When the throttle is closed, no further air can enter the engine, thus the motor would be running on fuel and not air.... thats why you sometimes see flashes of fire out exaust pipes when people lift off the gas, it is actaully a rich condition.
