Neons...

First off. Id rather not start a flame war about whether neons are "rice" or not. I just like the look of them (interior wise, not a fan of exterior/underbody).

This is what i have currently done for interior lighting.

spliced wires into the the stock front floor lighting that turns on when the doors are opened, and ran some new lights under to the rear seats, totaling 4 lights that turn on when the door is open. All 4 lights are bigger white lights as well, so it looks decent.

Im looking to replace the front and rear lights with maybe a 9" neon tube. color isnt decided yet. Im wondering if i can use the wires i am currently using (the wires the stock floor lights are run thru) I figured that would be easiest, because the wires are already setup, and i dont need any adjustmentes or any extra switches for the neons, they come on when the door is open. The only issue im coming across is that those neon sticks need a (+) wire, and a ground wire, right? do the stock lights i have now use a (+) and a ground, or is it (+) and (-)?

and will there be enough power.

if not, how would i wire these neons to turn on when the car door is opened, and also turned on when i turn the interior switch on, just like the stock floor lights.

thanks

those lights you have now (including all lights in the cars interior) im 99% sure are all 12v\whatever amperage.

use these lights (cut the molex on the end and wire them into the wires you currently are using;

WAY brighter, SOLID white, and very thin. mount the inverter anywhere you want. you can put the inverter under the dash, and extend the white wires with regular wire to where ever they need to go.

quite durable (assuming your not bending them) and last a long time. WAY better than those glass neon tubes. yes. they are 12v.

you can also get them in 4" flavor too. all kinds of colors (including UV)

but for a dome light, id suggest 4 ultrabright white LED's in series on the 12v lines of your dome light.

http://www.LSDIODES.com sells them for a few bucks. a little soldering and your all set //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Req, have you used these in a car application? aka are you sure they handle 14.4 volts?

not that EXACT pair, but ones JUST like it. i used a pair of blue 12"CCFL (cold cathode flourscent tube) with a dual inverter in my brothers car. i ziptied them to the trunk swaybar things, and they light up the entire trunk with a nice even blue glow //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

so yes, they do work perfectly fine. and i had a green one in my cavalier for quite a long time (wich im going to be putting into my saturn)
