Currently I'm looking at upgrading the system on my Ford 1999 2DR(Not Extended Cab) truck.
Currently I have a Sony Head-Unit, kinda sucks...can't play mp3/wma CD's and whatnot. On the doors I have a pair of Pioneer 240w 6x8's($55), two Sony Xplode 10" 1100watt(300w RMS) subwoofers($60x2)!Yes, Wal-Mart! -.- inside two MTX Bass Slammer Subwoofer Enclosures ($60x2).
The speakers are being powered directly by the battery, they replaced the previous factory 6x8's. The two 1100w subwoofers are being powered by a leftover 450w amplifier that came with the old 'Lightning Audio Supercharge Bass Kit'($190), came with a 750w subwoofer + enclosure...both items have been retired for a few monthes now, but the amplifier is still with me.
Currently I got only one Sony Xplode 1100w subwoofer hooked up because the sound was horrid with two of them hooked up to that amplifier. Ofcourse at the moment I don't know if the sound will be much better with a new amplifier since the popular opinion among this board is that Sony Xplode subwoofers **** and exploit false advertising and bust easily.
But Im really only limited to 8's and 10's due to the space available behind the seat for the subwoofers. But my current plan is to acquire a better amplifier to take more advantage of the current two subwoofers until I gain more cash to buy better ones, any tips on that would be great, as well as acquiring a headunit that will utilize my Ipod. Im happy with my door speakers, but any tips on those are welcomed.
My budget is between:
150 - 300 for the amplifier.
100-200 per Subwoofer
Hopefully I can reuse the current enclosures since their size is pretty much the only thing I can fit behind the seat.
100-200 Head Unit
50-150 - Door Speakers
I could go as far as placing bigger subwoofers in the bed of the pickup but I rather not because it would take some custom installing and additional accessories to make that work.
