I am planning on installing two 12" Alpine Type-R's in my car. I have been looking at a few different wiring options and I was wondering if someone could tell me

1. the advantages of wiring dual 4ohm subs down to 1 ohm to an amp... or wiring dual 2ohm subs to 4ohms and back down to 2ohm into the amp.

2. If i run them between 1000 and 1200 rms am i going to need to upgrade anything in my car? (i have a 2009 bmw 128i) and if so are we talking the battery or will it need to be the alternator?

3. will i have to run a bigger power wire from my amp to my battery? or anything else thats going to become a problem?

Thanks in advance

#1: It all depends on the amp. It's a lot more common to find that an amp puts out more power at 1 ohm than at 2. However, 1-ohm stable amps are more costly, though. But, a 1-ohm stable amp @ 1KWRMS will probably be less than an amp that can produce 1KWRMS @ 2-ohm.

#2 I'm not sure of the stock alternator size, but I think in terms of alternator, you should be fine. You should do the Big 3 in whatever wire you can afford. The best is 0/1 AWG or bigger (as the numbers get smaller in the denominator, the wire gets bigger. I.E. 0/2 AWG is bigger than 0/1 AWG.) But it's perfectly fine to do it in 2 AWG, or 4 AWG, even 8 AWG. Something is better than nothing. If you have problems after that, I'd suggest you look into a new alternator.

#3 The lower the amp runs at, the more amperes it will pull (meaning that it'd be best to get a bigger wire). I'd suggest looking into 0/1 AWG to run your power / ground wires from the amp. Stinger sells these things called wire... well, damn. I forgot what they're called. They basically make it so that a 0/1 AWG wire can fit into a 4-AWG wire slot VIA a big adapter type thing. They're pretty cheap, and worth it IMO. I think it's always better to overkill than underkill. If you don't put big enough wire, there's a chance that your wire could catch on fire, or more likely, your amp will burn out from the lack of proper current.
