Need some help...

well, I would still need to know the voice coil configuration of the sub....single or dualso, how many wires are running to it? 2 or 4?
Knew I shouldnt have trusted him....

The sub is only 400 watts peak and 200 rms

The voice coil is single.

Should I buy these? I only need one but all I can find is two sold together.

That's the kind I have.

used, off e-bay....kinda chancey

you can buy a single NEW for about the same price here

http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=293-352

now, that will give you 2 single voice coil 4 ohm subs...wired like this

2SVC_4-ohm_mono.jpg

so you need an amp that will give you 400watts at 2ohms....give me a few minutes and let me do some looking around and I'll see what I can find...

give me an idea of how much you want to spend on the amp.

IF you dont mind sticking with MTX(They're not the greatest, but not bad either)...you can get an MTX 400 watt amp for around $200 shipped here.

yeah, its a nice chunk of change, but it would work perfectly with 2 of those MTX subs.

And it is 400wattsX1 at 2ohms.

or a Phoenix Gold Xenon 400.1

I had one of these, they put out 400 watts at any ohm load from 1-4ohms, and tend to do slightly more than 400 watts. The one I had did 425, which would still be ok for the MTX subs.

Being honest again, if you want to sound good...you need to spend a little money

My sytem sounds really good, though probably not the loudest, or costliest....but I spent about $535 on it.

However I didn't buy everything at once

bought the subs first, then a few months later bought the radio, then a few months later bought the amp.

How much was it without your radio? I was actually looking at that amp on Sonic earlier.

And honestly...I don;t understand anything about ohms...can you explain?

What model JL sub do you have?
It's a discontinued one... 12WO-4

without radio...take off $175....so about $360

ohms is hard to explain, In fact...I cant...I always use the Crutchifield Subwoofer Wiring Advisor

as long as you know how many voice coils the sub has, and how many ohms each voice coil is, you can use Crutchfield to show you the ways to wire them up

for instance, my subs are Dual 4ohm Voice Coils..

so if I use both then I can only wire them to either 4ohms or 1ohm, depending on how they are wired

but , like I said, supposing you get another MTX ...they are both Singe 4ohm Voice Coil subs and so will be only able to be wired to 2ohms.

again, I dont really understand how it works, I just use Crutchfield and wire them like it shows.

Where on Crutchfield can I find these wiring advisors?

You were right...shouldn't have bought them.

I bought um just to have something in teh back for now and they sent different ones than what they said they were selling.

The model I have are 400 watt peak, 200 rms...the ones they sent just say 200 watt on the back and they don't have the little push button connectors like mine does.

Even on the box they sent with it, it shows the connectors.

That's what I get I guess.
