need some help with electrical

Well, I have posted a similar thread before but plans have changed and wanted some advice.

I have a 05 pontiac G6 and want to run about 2300 watts rms total and need to beef up the electrical a bit. I just aquired 2 new yellow tops with the purchase of a truck that I got yesterday and figured I could run those in the trunk and leave the stock battery under the hood. I have some runs of 4/0 that I wanted to use for my big 3 so that should be sufficiant. question is do I absolutely have to run a h/o alt? I do not even know if they make one for my car but if they do It will have to wait for a while. let me know what you guys think.

Well, I would run it without the HO alt first and see what your voltage is like and then go from there. If you do then need one I would highly suggest getting a Mechman alternator...especially since most places might not have an option for you..Mechman will either have one or modify an alt to fit your G6

right on, I am hoping that I do not have to run one at least for a few months. I will make sure the voltage doesnt drop to much because I know it can do damage to an alt over time. I aske a guy at a local shop this same question and he handed me a 1 farad rockford fosgate capacitor and told me that would be plenty...lol I left the shop because I knew he had no clue what he was talking about.

with out the source current eventually the voltage will sag and look out d class amps. 2300 true watts will draw over 200 amps of current. that is more than the stock alt produces. if you don't put ho alt you will have to charge batts on a regular basis or ride around with out beating or risk damage to the amps(if they are d class amps)

Just a wild guess...but i'd say with pretty high confidence that he wont be playing full-bore every minute of every day with settings at max...with it at decent levels it shouldnt draw that much current...it shouldnt be too bad, but may need to upgrade...guess we'll see
