Need some help on stereo

Hey guys im kinda of new to the whole car stereo thing.. I've had different systems in but nothing has really been as good as i really wanted. Most of the stuff i've used has been Alpine type-r/type-x and i really havent been satisfied with the quality/loudness.

I want to start over and put in something pretty awesome but im not really sure where to start. I have an 03' Jetta which has spots for 6.5's in the doors. Im kind of confused about the whole speaker size.. I see they range from 4'' to 5 1/4, 6.5 and 6x9.. Really what i want to know is whats going to make the best sound.. Is it all about the tweeters or what..

Also money isnt really a problem, i dont have a budget i just don't want to waste my money on something thats not as good as it could be or something that shouldn't be in there. I want to do it all right. Who do ya'll think have the best quality stuff out there?

The install itself is the most critical. If money is'nt a problem take you car to the stereo shop and tell them what you want. Let them install it, the right way. If you had some Type X's it should have sounded sweeeet. If you had the R's it should have been loud as hell. With the right amp and install. Good luck.

+1 on the install. Sound deadening in particular made a huge difference for my truck, it was worth the effort and money. I had my whole interior ripped out, and did the whole thing. There are stickies on this as well as other aspects of the install throughout the site, and they are all super helpful.

I guess what you need to ask yourself is whether you will be doing this yourself or not!

As far as equipment goes, don't skimp on anything. Proper wiring, high quality amps (I didn't quite do that myself, but wish I had) etc... It helps a lot to listen to the speakers you're going to put it too.

In general, it seems most people go with 6.5" components. They all seem to sound different, so take some time and listen to them. If you can't do that, take a guess like I did. I'm not completely satisfied, but I was working on a budget.

Lastly, make sure to read a ton. It's time consuming but I think it's worth it- unless you're taking your car to a shop I guess. Or at least a bit less important in that case!

Good luck. I learned sooo much in my first (and recent) install that it was really satisfying. I have a long way to go and can't wait for the next one. If that's what you're after, start reading and get ready for a ton of work hehe.

Remember not all shops know what they're doing. They can be valuable for information as long as you have your bullshit detector on - they'll try and upsell you.
