Need some help on comp upgrade

alright, so ive got sum experience in car audio now, and im lookin to upgrade from my noob purchase of type R comps...i wud like to go passive, and wutever set i go with will go in optimim speaker placment in custom kick panels...

please give em ideas...lookin for under 200...sumthing with good kick and SMOOTH highs:yumyum: also, one more thing, i DO NOT CARE if they are new used or refurb...doesnt matter to me.

hmm, I'd try and find a pair of type X's if it was me, yuo can get them used for under 200 or new for just a bit over. Obviously rainbow is popular on here. Boston Pro's can be found at about that price as well. All fit the description of what your looking for. If you werent' happy with your R's you may still like the X's. They are far superior, IMO. I've heard both on boards and the X's were much better. I've heard R's in cars before quite a few times, X's only once, but the X's were alot better than the R's in any case. Anyway, whatever you get I wanna hear it one of these days, if I ever get free time to drive down.

well the main problem with my type Rs is there harsh highs...or atleast the seem harsh to me...but im lookin into the Xs and Bostons right now...any model #s for the bostons?

You might also want to look into Exile's XP components. The a/d/s 3-series have been selling real cheap on e-Bay and are nice. Sounddomain still has some 5 1/4 3- and 2-series available (Sounddomain is an authorized dealer).

I've heard their upper end comps are good, not sure about the lower models though. Morels are pretty laid back for the most part too.

Those type X's look awesome. Obviously Boston's are smooth. I do wish I knew someone who had Rainbows. I would love to here them. I know they might be expensive, but if you are lookiing for smooth, take a look at Polk Audio. I love mine. Sweetness! They really are smooth.

I say stretch you buget just a bit and get a set of Rainbow SLC's. Or CDT's did you look through the classifieds? Or even if you can find a set of Focal poylglass's that would be nice as well. Keep searching. Don't pull the trigger yet.

This should get you started. I know most of these are listed above 200 bucks but the power of negotiation will get you there. Plus it is more of a reference. My choice would be the Germs!!! Happy hunting.
