Need recommendations for 6.5" Speakers

I'm looking to replace my OEM speakers since the surrounds are already gone (13 year old speakers). I was thinking about getting Pioneer TS-A1680R since they have a good price point, are 4-way, and are rated at 60W RMS. Are there any other recommendations anyone else has for speakers for around $70-80 shipped?

are these speakers being used for rearfill? if so those pioneers should work pretty well. i have always used pioneer coaxils and never had problems with them and always sounded great. i had a pair of 6x9 4 ways that i had for over 4 years and ended up selling them with the car and they were still working great. if this is for your front stage though i would recommend a set of components.

At that price...i personally like the Alpine Type S's more. They have more cone area, so more midbass. And the tweeter on the Type S's arent as harsh.

Listen with your own ears. For co-axials, I always recommend going around to your local shops and BB/CC and listening to what they have on display so that you can decide what you like. It doesn't matter what all of us sitting behind a computer say; everyone's taste is different.

AGAIN...I AM NOT A NEWBIE BUT HARDLY an Expert..I truly enjoyed reading "the Car audio Cookbook" although a little out dated it is a good read on the basics of Car audio electronics and myths about Car Audio..One of the issues they cover is 3way and 4way speakers..According to this book they are just for "looks" there is no real Value in a 3 way or 4 way single spekaer..I do not know all the reasons why..but the book is pretty well written and a great reference..I would not go with a 4 way speaker..It's just a bunch of HYPE???

Yes, anything more than 2-way in a co-axial is for marketing and so noobs will go "Ooh, look at all the little speakers, it must be good"

But if somebody wants the 4-ways, then more power to them.

CDT's are real good.... for me it goes Focal>CDT>Type S>Pioneer 3 or 4 ways.
