I have a Sony MHC-GX99 Mini Component System, which i was very impressed with for the longest. then i stopped using it for a couple months and i come back and my sub is not working. I need a place to repair it, directions on how to fix it or contacts to someone who can perferably in ohio. Was not sure where to post this but I thought it was worth a try. I bought it from Rex Audio..then they went out of business. All suggestions are welcome.

Also: I plan on selling all of it after I get it fixed so if anyones interested.... yeah lol

For the price that you'll be paying to get it fixed versus getting a new one, it is more cost-effective to just buy a new powered sub. Partsexpress have 10" powered sub starting at $99.99.

I had a 12" Sony sub that went out for no reason, took it to a repair shop and paid $20 to have it looked at. Turns out the main IC burnt out and it costs $85 just to order it. The whole powered sub is worth about that used.

the entire stereo??... or just the sub? i can deal with getting a new sub... i just need to know which one to get
the sub...or the entire system...whatever floats your boat. Bookshelf stereos, like the one your have, are no big deal.

Find out how powerful the sub's dedicated channel is and replace the actual woofer with something comparable.

Personally, I wouldn't put much time, effort or money into something like this. The entire stereo is probably worth around $100...

Agree'd. Its just the fact that i paid about $50 more for the set with the subwoofer over the ordinary one. Just kinda a let down, esp it being my first set up... sounded good too...

ANYWAY, still using the stereo with just the component speakers now. Took the enclosure apart and kept the subwoofer speaker itself. I like to think the amplifier blew and not the sub so we'll see if I can do anything interesting with it from there just to mess around. Appreciate the input as always Misfit

Yeah it was powered. Had a amp hooked on the back of the sub box with at plastic enclosure around it. Wish I took some pictures when I took it apart... Here is the sub itself
