I need help deciding on a HU for sq. I am not going to have a processor in my car at all. I have had a F#1 7990 by itself and it sounded really good, but had to take it out when the CD transport broke. Here is the list I have narrowed it down to. I understand there are many others people like, but these 4 are the ones I am trying to choose between. Again, I have only heard the 7990 (& DRZ9255). Please comment ony why you chose the one you did and I want to thank everyone in advance...this really helps alot.

McIntosh MX4000 (with the D/A converter)

Sony CDX-C90

Alpine F#1 7990

Clarion DRX9255 (not DRZ) / MX406 (Read that they are the same)

Thanks!!!!!!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

mx4000 w/converter was tested as 'the best' in a head thread on eca a while back. beat out many of the popular ones. the alpine finished poorly, iirc.

still, I'd love an alpine. :/

you could go with that... I disagree completely, though.

if you're sitting in the center of your car with your speakers about 10' in front of you, then I'd be all for no processing (though, I would still use it in a car).

Because music isn't meant to be processed, it's meant to be listened to.

To be honest I don't use any processing now, but then again all I have is a mid level Pioneer HU, so I really can't. I still think it sounds quite awesome though.

I have the HX D1 .. JDM HU it's between the DRZ9255 and DRX 9255 all of the buttons are analog and a complete different from its siblings. PM me if u interested //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

To me HU with DA converter and DC/DC power adapter sounds much more cleaner than the ones doens't have one. I've had ALpine 9887 and move on the HX D1 .. the HX D1 sure give out a cleaner and more powerful out put. And the music sound well balance and detail and i dont have to adjust bass up and down all the time when i change to different songs. The HX D1 is just perfect when u turn it up with ur amp tuning right. It also has HDCD decoding chips which slightly increase the SQ of the system. But to me i don't hear much difference with HDCD recording. As long as you have good amp, speakers , and the rest will depend on the source HU. No matter how good ur amp/ speakers are , without a good HU it won't sound as good as it supposed to be.

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif Alternative to McIntosh i'd say get the Clarion high -end series. Otherwise there is a good HU from panasonic running Tube which i also own one as well //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif the CQ TX 5500. however, the pana doesn't have strong out put and it needs some more signal conditioner to clean up signal. To me the old school Clarion still win with price/ performance wise.
