Ok i am new to all this but I was trying to replace my stock rear speakers with new ones (1999 Pontiac Sunfire). I got the stock ones out but ran into two problems.

1:) the speakers are 6 x 9 (stock were 6x9 also) when i mount the speaker tot he factory bracket the magnet makes it into the hole but the bottom portion of the speakers hits the frame and the bracket won't sit right. Could i use like some rubber gasket or something inside the bracket that screws to the speaker itself so that the speaker rest on the gasket maybe 1/4 above (after i screw the speaker to the bracket with the gasket on it) so the bracket will sit in the hole right? or is there a better option (anything that has to do with not cutting the metal to make the hole a tad bigger)

2:) Stupid me disconnected my factory speakers and didn't look to see which wires went to + and -. I assumed the wires woulda been red and black so it would be easy to tell but they are not. On one side they are brown and yellow, the other side it's dark blue and light blue (have no idea why). I tried using my multimeter to figure out which was + and - but oddly when i put the - lead to ground and the positive both wires they both came back with readings. I just assumed only the positive wire would give me a reading not both (does this sound strange to anyone?) Then i tried just touching the both leads to both of the wires and got no reading at all...So what can I do to find out which wire is + and which wire is -? anyone have any advise?

1.yes use a baffle or gasket to make the speaker fit good,

2. when the wires are right you will get more bass, when theyre wrong there will be less

bass

Thanks for the reply. Fig the gasket would be the best route to try.

So as far as the wires just hool them up and play a song and listen for the bass? then switch them and see whihc one sounded better? There no other way to tell then?

Oh ya and one mroe question...prob has nothing to do with what im doign but maybe you guys who mess with all the electrical would know. The lights on my radio seem to dim down form time to time. it happen sporatically, then last week my left headlight went dim aswell but the right one is perfectly fine. This sound like i am having electrical problems in the car (like altenator or battery or bad ground or something?) Is this something major i should worry about and have checked out by a mechanic? or it nothing to really get worried over yet?)
