please help i just bought two spl 2200 watt max 12,s and a 1600 watt continous 2 ohm stable amp the speakers are dual voice coil at 1 ohm a coil so if i run in parellel will the amp go into protection or will it be 2 ohms or more

Hopefully you will get better help here than I am about to offer, but if my calculations are correct, running those speakers in parallel (while using both voice coils) would yield a .5 ohm load on the amp. If you wire each sub in series then you should be able to achieve a 2 ohm load.

I think you lost me.. What is the resistance of the voice coils..1, 2, 4, 8 etc? The way you worded that just threw me for a loop..

It looks like 1 ohm voice coils to me. Hey Jeremy, what kind of speakers do you have? Is SPL the name brand? 1 ohm voice coils are hard to come by, are you sure you got that part straight? This just kind of hit me when Mykeys asked about the resistance.

yeah they are 1 ohm a voice coil dual voice coil on each speaker and the name brand is spl they hold 2200 watts a peace they are retailed at $400 a peace

Wire the four voice coils in series for a 4 ohm mono load.. If your amp is 2 ohm stable its only good for 4 ohms bridged anyway unless stated elsewhere on the box or in the paperwork..You should be good at that.

listen to mike, he is a smart man, and if you are going to ask why a 4 ohm load when my amp says 2 ohm stable? because that is a 2 ohm load on the amp.
