So my buddy gave me 2, 12" inifinity refrence 1230w subs. Nothing special, but still it was free. So I was looking at amps and I want one that will for sure power these to the max, but I also want one that will be able to power something when I upgrade and get bigger subs. My friend said to check out the Infinity Mono Channel Amplifier REF611A. It seems good to me but I am still new with everything so what do you guys think?

here are the specs for the subs

Size: 12 inch

Rec. Sealed Box Dims: 1.25 cu.ft.

Rec. Ported Box Dims: 2.00 cu.ft.

Free Air Usage: yes

Sensitivity: 92 dB

Frequency Response: 25-250 Hz

Recommended RMS Power: 300W

Peak Power Handling: 1200W

Impedance: 4 ohms subwoofer wiring options

and for the amp I was looking for something around $400, the JBL is nice but its quite pricey. Any other suggestions?

Well if you wired them in parallel then you would present the amp with a 1 ohm load, if you wired them in series = 4 ohm load. You kind of have two choices: a 1 ohm stable mono amp that does 600+ watts RMS @ 1 or a 2 channel amp that does 600+ at 4 ohms brigged.

I personally would run a 2 channel brigged. Generally most 2 channels that are rated at 150 x2 @ 4 ohms will do 600 watts brigged or more which would match up nice.

For $400 you have a lot of choices...You can still pick up the MBQ raa2400 at Crutchfield for $209 delivered using a few coupon codes (PM for codes)...that will give you 800 watts of real world power and your subs will rattle every bolt loose in your car:naughty:

are they dual 4ohm subs? if so a jbl 1200.1 would be good wire it for 600@4ohms and or it can do 1200w at 1-2ohms
which one the gto1200.1 or the bp1200.1

cause i think the gto is only stable at 2ohms... but maybe i'm wrong

Alright forget what I said here!!!! I assumed that the subs were dual 4's but they are single 4's....ooooops! So you basically want a mono amp that does 600+ watts rms at 2 ohms because you will either end up with a 2 ohm or 8 ohm final load depending on how you wire them. Use this to help you understand why and how: http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/rftech/wiringwizard.asp

So that 2 channel recommendation was incorrect, sorry!!!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/redface.gif.62fdbfe1a101588a808c4cff71bcb942.gif
