NEED HELP!!!! new subs, speakers distort. what to do???

Hi all, so I just recently put 2 12" Rockford Fosgate Punch 4 ohm P3D4 in my 95 k1500. I currently have a 1000w 2 channel sony explode amp (I know it's old) that is powering the subs. the speakers in my truck are older sony explodes. My stereo receiver is a sony (from 2001, I believe). So on to my problem, I put my subs in and they sound GREAT, but once I turn the volume up on my stereo over halfway, my speakers distort REALLY bad. My dad mentioned I may need to get a crossover, but I think I need a new receiver. Eventually I want to have an alpine receiver, all fosgate speakers and a fosgate amp, But unfortunately I don't have the funds to do all in one shot. So I think I'll take one piece at a time. Please, let me know what you think I can do. Thanks.

Sorry, I guess I should have said what I can spend right now lol. $200 is about the most I can go right now, only reason being I'm trying to get my truck painted. I only work part-time, because of school...

I could send you an amp. If you want new if would be a perfect fit

Change the amp first. Get a mono block
Ppi p1000, soundstream rub1.1600 both good budget amps, and under $200 new @ sonicelectronix
So the guy says his subs sound great but his speakers are distorting - and you're sending him out to spend his entire budget on more sub power?

Explain to me how that makes ANY sense whatsoever.

Obviously - there is more sub output available with more power for the subs, but that is not the problem.

The solution to the problem is to get a little power to the speakers and hi-pass them -- is it not?

Take the 2 channel. Put it on the speakers to make them sound better. The amp only does prolly 300-400 rms any way. And the mono on the subs The deck power isn't enough for the speakers. Even if the speakers only take 50 watts rms each which I doubt the gains on the 2 channel can be dialed back to compensate

Guess I misunderstood the question, I took it as subs sounded good until half volume, If its the mids getting distorted I say pick up a decent comp set and a decent 2 channel for front stage and do away with the rears
