Need help for cheapish setup!

My plan is to have some higher volume than stock. My car is a fiat Punto. Now I have 2 Boss 4" speakers at the back and the noise is awful. I was planning to get 2 JBL speakers for the front (some 35W RMS), or something better depending on which size fits. I'm also replacing my Pioneer headunit which is rated at 45Wx4 with another Pioneer HU rated at 50Wx4. Will I notice any difference in sound quality and volume, or is it all useless?

ANother thing...how bad is it to get a very cheap amp off ebay which has no name (or something like Shark)? Will I see improvements, or will I ruin my speakers?

One last thing...should I get a pair of 4" JBLs for the back too with the front ones? (Only 4" fits the back). Will this improve my listening?

Thanks a lot for your patience!!!

No HU's put out more than about 20-22 watts RMS. The 45 and 50 watt numbers you speak of are maximum, peak power, not conitnuous, RMS power. Ignore it. Pay attention to RMS, not peak.

If you want louder, clearer sound, an aftermarket amp is pretty much essential. There are decent quality, inexpensive amps out there. For example, the Profile AP1040 is only $90 at millionbuy. It's rated for 75w RMS x 4.

Most people on here will recommend ditching the rear speakers altogether, and get a good quality setup up front. I agree with this. The only sound I have coming from the back is from my subwoofers.

For fronts, you'll get the best sound quality with component speakers, as opposed to coaxials. Component speakers have a seperate woofer and tweeter. The mounting is a little more challenging, as you have to find a way to mount the tweeter somewhere. This usually means making about a 1.5" hole in your door panel.

The Phoenix Gold RSd65cs component speakers are good quality and low cost. You can get them for $129 shipped from onlinecarstereo. They can usually be found on ebay for about $80-$90 shipped as well.

If you absolutely don't want components, but just want coaxial speakers as drop-in replacements for your stock speakers, the Pioneer REV series are really good coaxials. They have 6.5" and 6"x9" versions. You don't say what size your front speakers are.

You'll probably want to get a subwoofer too, since even the best 6.5" speakers in the world just can't reproduce the lower part of the audible spectrum. I don't know which low cost subwoofers sound the best, so I'll leave that to someone else.

Hope this helps!

So I was looking around and found a couple of interesting things. But first of all is millionbuy.com a safe place to buy stuff from? I found this http://www.millionbuy.com/piogm6200f.html

It's cheapish and suits my purposes. Now the problem is that I live in Malta so it's not easy to get stuff over here. From this site, the amp would cost much less than from here (almost half including shipping).

As for speakers, I'm planning to get a pair of 6.5" speakers with something between 40W and 60W RMS. Nothing great, but as I said I only need better-than-stock sound, nothing great. I'll then buy some good sub later on when I have money.

So the questions are:

1. Is millionbuy a safe place to buy from?

2. Is the amp any good?

3. Would these be any good http://www.millionbuy.com/jblgto636.html

4. Would it be too hard to install everything myself even though I'm a total noob?!?!

5. Am I being a bug?

Thanks a lot for your patience! Help those who are lesser than you...

millionbuy is a good site. the pioneer amp i have never dealt with but you might wanna look into profile audio if you wanna save some money. but the pioneer im sure is a good amp for your mids. as far as the jbl youll have to ask somebody else b/c i have never owned or heard jbl's.

1. Yep, I've ordered from them before and they are a decent company to deal with.

2. Go with a 2 channel amp for the fronts: like the Profile AP600.

3. Not bad, but I think the Pioneer REVs would be a better choice.

4. Not hard, but can be frustrating when jumping into it the first couple of times ... just do some researching for your specific vehicle and write down everything you can and commit it to memory before you start. The more info you are armed with, the more obstacles you can overcome if you are faced with any.

5. Not at all!
