Need help deciding on components

Hey guys,

I recently bought a 97 VW Cabrio. Long ago I was big into car audio (I was an installer/box builder for 3 years), and I'm looking to get back into it.

I'm really looking for a good cross between daily listening/sound quality. I've been checking out a lot of component sets recently. My budget isn't huge (I know low budget and sound quality don't really fit in the same sentence) so bare with me.

I've been looking at CDT CL-61A-25 PRO's and Image Dynamics CTX65CS. I'd like to keep it under $200, with $250 being the max I'd like to spend right now.

Should I be looking elsewhere for my price range?

I plan on powering the front components with a Hifonics HFi100.2 which I have sitting in my garage brand new in it's box. Is this amp going to give me clean sound a decent set of components?

I never really got into sound quality stuff when I was installing (all of our customers just wanted stupid loud bass and nothing else). What should I be looking for in a good EQ? Would it really help out the sound quality if I purchased a cheap one?

Hybrid Audio Technologies - Imagine I62-1 are hard to beat for $200. they saved cost where it made sense, but keep the sound quality high.

or you can piece your own together. people have been having success with stuff from Parts Express (like Dayton RS) or Madisound (Peerless, Vifa, Silver Flute, etc.) if you piece your own together, you'll either need to make/buy a passive crossover or buy a 4 channel amp and run the speakers active. if you go active, you'll need an electronic crossover that is suitable for a mid/tweet 2-way. I have a spare Alpine DRE-A200 that can do it, many other out there as well.

Thanks a lot for the reply keep_hope_alive.

What do you think about Rainbow SLX265's? Woofersetc has them right now for $229. I've always loved the way Rainbow's sound but I've only ever listened to the expensive sets. Do these live up to the Rainbow name?

ive got some hertz high energy mids and crossovers with cadence neo tweets i'd sell you in that price range shipped ,only thing is no grills for the 6.5 but i could throw in a set of grills that i have laying around to make them complete

Which model of Hertz mids? Mind if I ask why you're not using them?

pm me a price on the set.

I got a buddy running the Rainbow SLC265 Kicks and they aren't bad for a budget set. I heard a set of Herts HSK Comps and was very surprised at how well they sounded on very little power. They would get my vote over the Rainbows although they cost more.
