i just bought a 12" w7 and i was wondering how would i figure out the port dimensions so its at 32 hz? the box is a custom box for the back of my celica and is 1.75 cubic ft and i was looking at the calculator but the numbers it is giving me for the minimums are way to big. can someone please help me any info would be greatly appriciated.

thanks,

nick

You do realize that to port that box you already have you will have to displace some of the air in the box right now with port, right? You also realize that the W7 wants a big box when ported, right?

If you were to use external ports to keep as much of the box volume you currently have as possible, you would need 2 4" diameter ports 34 3/4" long to get a 32hz tuning.

^^ Basically you don't have enough room. That subwoofer's magnet & depth are way too big to accomodate that tuning for that small of a box.

Build a new one. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

2.25-2.5 cubes net is what I always like for 12W7s. At least that's what customers say they like. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

does anyone on here design custom box plans for specific cars? because id like something with the same performance but looks better than just a square box. ive got a 03 celica.

thanks,

nick

Its really rare for boxes to be custom made for most cars. Usually only pickups only really have custom boxes premade, but some people could make you one... it depends how much you wanna spend. Its probably gonna be square no matter what, but who cares? its in your trunk...

im new to car audio and i just installed the w7 in a sealed box and i was wondering could i get more spl with out sacrificing to much sq by switching to a certain size ported box. any infos appriciated.

thanks,

nick

The Sealed box sounds a little better, smoother transients for sure.

The Ported is louder but only a little, not worth the investment for a 12W7 unless you've got money and time to burn or multiple W7's.Then space becomes the issue.I had my W7 put in a downfiring custom slot ported box 2.35cubes net tuned to 32hz and it's BIG and loud as hell and sounds good on a Zapco C2K 6.0 but it was over 2k in the box work alone:)and of course I'm now feeling Hells not loud enough.

That being said,I should have bought 4 W6v2's built a bigass box myself and saved 1500 and bought another 6.0 amp.Live and learn the hard way;0( W7=way overrated

It's a better SQ than Spl sub, stay sealed. What kinda power are you runnin to it?
