Need help! Audio noob w/ '98 Camry

Hi there!

I love music! It literally rocks my world. Unfortunately my stock Camry system can't even handle the mildest amount of bass.

I want to listen to my music as it should be listened to.

I don't want to spend more then $500 on parts, but I want to be able to turn up the volume and not experience a huge drop-off in quality.

Can someone take a couple minutes and outline the basic components that would make this possible? All recommendations are welcome.
