Hi all,

Great forum and great to be here! I am working on a 1965 Oldsmobile pro touring car. This car will be driven to a lot of road race events, car shows, etc, It might shown a little but basically it will be a high end driver car.

With the above being said, I want a nice ausio set up. Due to dash fabrication I am limited to a stock sized head unit, I can not use a double din. I would like Pandora, sat radio etc.

The car will accept 6.5's in the front, 6x9's on the rear deck, and I plan on 2 subs in the rear.

Years ago I was a car audio fanatic, and if memory serves me well my favorite speakers back then wer focal and Diamond Audio.

I do not listed to much "boomy" type music, I am a big fan of clarity and seperation. I will be listening to DMB, Pink Floyd, Metallica, Jack Johnson, Clapton, Kings of Leon. etc (you get the point)

Now I know I need to state a budget, and to be honest I dont really have a set budget, Obviously I want to spend as little s I can to get great performance. I guess its safe to say I am not going to spend 10k on the system, I can do all the work myself, I want clear sound at high volume, great seperation, and tight bass and I dont mind spending 200-350 per set of speakers, but if 200.00 will get me a good set of 6.5's or 6x9's then why spend 350.00? But thats why I am writing this, to get the advice of more knowledgable folks like yourself.

For one, save some money, and get better deadener than dynamat. Get AT or Audio Technix. Look for their sub forum here.

Don't bother with 6x9's in the rear deck. If you are going for great sound do a really nice front stage, with a decent pair of subs in the back. No need for rear fill. How often you ever been to a concert and had speakers behind you?

Go with a really nice active 3 way front setup if you can afford the room. You will be very happy.

Can you give me an example of an active 3 way setup?

I do listen to pandora, sat radio, and burned cd's, I would also like something with the android control app. What would you suggest? I have been out of the car audio world for about ten years, all the technology changes have me a little out of my relm

The 442 would have old style shaft mounted radio. If you don't wanna hack it for a modern head unit, there's an outfit called Vintage Car Audio that can hook you up with an old school HU and modern features.

There are so many speaker choices out there it's impossible to really suggest. You need to go to shops and listen for yourself.

We have a custom built modern dash in place so the head unit isnt a problem. I would love to go listen to some high end stuff, problem is I am in far western NC, I only know of a few car audio shops around and they all deal in mid grade audio, products comparable to the best buy lines.

Hybrid Audio Legatia L841-3 would be a great set for you.
I cant fint a lot of info on H.A.T. , I like what I have seen and read, but I cant find any good info and pricing on a component set, I think the 841 stands for 8" 4" 1" ? if so there is no way I can do a front stage that big, I might be able to pull off a 6.5, 4, 1 if such is made. Remember I am space limited, I can do a 6.5 in the kick panel then 4 and 1 in the door.

the more I research the more I like this idea, this wasnt around when I was really into car audio years ago, I assume if I am not wanting to have anything visible in the cab of the car that finding a good head unit that I can use to control the 3 way active set up would be key? Or am I incorrect? Any idea of head units that have sat radio, pandora, etc and capability to tune a 3 way active?
