n00b wiring question

When you wire a dvc sub with 2 4 ohm voice coils to 4 ohms will it still do its full rated ems? Or is it only putting one voice coil to use. I know this is a dumb question but I always understood it wrong I think

a single dual 4 ohm sub can ONLY be wired for 8 ohms or 2 ohms

The power handling of a speaker (or coil) doesn't change w/ different wiring configurations, it's the (recommended) thermal limit of the coil. If you only used one coil of a DVC sub then you 1/2 the power handling of the sub. If the DVC sub is 500rms then that's 250rms per coil. Yes you can hook each coil to 1 channel of a 2 channel amp if you want, most people don't run them that way but you can.

That sub is going to be either 8 ohms or 2 ohms

Running at 8 ohms would be stupid so 2 ohms is what is going to be presented to the amp

unless you have an osciliscope and can exactly tune each channel to being identical, the coils wont be receiving the correct same power, damaging the sub...

Ok. So if I were to wire my two type x's together at 8ohms apiece presenting a 4 ohm load to the amp, would I still be able to give them all 2000 Watts ems That The pair is capable of? Like I said I know its a noob question but I just need a straight answer. Thanks to those of you who have been willing to pitch in
