I know this is a car audio forum, but i have a strange question. would it be possible to hook up my alpine sub to my home stereo? specs below

reciever:

power supply: 120V~60HZ, its putting out about 380 watts 4ohm independance.

sub: alpine 10" type E 250 watts RMS, 750 max, 4ohm also.

i would just wire it in with the regular speakers.

now what im wondering is would this work without me blowing up my sub before i get the funds to buy an amp for it and throw it in my truck?

Because apparently the search function is broken (as this is easily the most often-asked question in this forum), I'll do you a favor...

You're going to need a plate amp (go to http://www.partsexpress.com and look for one) that'll do what you need - expect to pay $130-$175.

You can't wire the sub directly to the receiver, as the impedances wouldn't work out.

You must have one hell of a receiver that does 380wrms @ 4 ohms. Are you sure that's not a peak power measurement?

If you directly wired it to a rear channel, nothing would happen technically...but you wouldn't have any control over the frequencies going to the sub. Wouldn't have very much control over the volume either.

It's a ghetto way to do it, and not worth it.
