myth or not

I was told by my amp reapir guy that when running an amp @ 1ohm u shouldn't mount it to the box because the board gets real hot and the solder starts to get soft, allowing things to come loose. He said that being mounted on the box with the bass and the heat on the board that I would most likely rattle something loose in my amps. This seems like BS cause I see amp mounted to boxes all the time...Any input? The amps are hifonics if this helps any...???

the ohm load wouldn't make much difference. it can be at 2 or 4 or whatever and still get hot. and it has some sense to it, but my amps have been on my box for 3+ years now...

I've seen a Cactus Elite 12k get damaged mosfets due to vibration from being mounted to box. Not saying you can't mount your amp to your box because it will get damaged, but just increases the probability of something happening. I never heard the part about the wiring down to 1 ohm, but when an amp is wired lower, it does work harder creating more heat, so it kind of makes sense to me.

IDK about the solder softening up but I suppose its possible. Vibration is definitely an amp killer though....
x2 its an amp killer but generally not due to heat. its more of your amp being too cool in the morning. the cold makes the soders brittal and easy to break if its cold enough.

it makes a huge difference in ohm load. lower impedances conduct a world of more heat and its just whether or not the amp has a good enough heat sink to deal with the heat or not. 1 ohm will see a lot of more heat than 4.

if your box has no flex at all, and you have the voltage to keep the amp cool (14 or so volts constant power) you'll be fine.
the voltage will help for heat but again that will not cause soders to break but heat can break other things

amp on box crew checking in.....3+ years no problems
you also live in Cali where its nice out always lol

put bushings on the mounting feet before you mount and you wont have any issues. i personally dont use em an every amp has been on my boxes. i got 2 hooked up to my box now
^^^this. if you buy some sound deadener and put it between the mounting feet and the box it will make a world of difference.

the rule is not to mount to a box it has nothing to do with the heat although i could see it making sense that way but if your amp gets hot enough to melt solder something is wrong. but mounting an amp to a box will most likely fukc ish up itll rattle stuff loose. most people do it cuz most ppl dont know ****

-This could not be less correct.... what you have said here makes nor worldly sense.. I GUARANTEE that a rockford or kicker from 1999 running at 4ohm mono gets WAY hotter than almost any newer class D mono at any impedance....

efficiency and current draw determine heat.. not impedance... and yes for a given amplifier it will be warmer at a 1ohm load than a 4ohm load... but saying an amp running at 1ohm gets too hot and an amp at 4ohm would be fine... is ... well complete crap... its amp dependent..

please dont feed the crap that goes around here...
