So My 960mp has been working great for a while, a couple weeks ago I got in my 4runner one morning to find my head unit not working properly. For some reason beyond my knowledge the unit shuts off when the face opens, closes itself and tries to start back up again, it does this cycle constantly by shutting down and coming on until you disrupt it and make it stay closed. Everything else works fine in the closed face mode until you try to open the face. None of the tuning menus are accessible through the closed mode so this is a problem for me.

I took the unit out tonight to inspect it and figure out why it is malfunctioning and was able to rule out a few possibilities. The fuse I have on the battery wire is in good shape, it obviously wouldn't work at all if the fuse was bad. I also checked the internal amp by unplugging the speaker wires on the harness and turning the unit on, that did not change anything. I am kind of at a loss with this problem because I feel it may be internal and I have no idea what to do. I could use some help if anyone has ever heard of this problem before.

Thanks for the response, huge help. I was unaware those ribbons wore out and caused that. Now I am trying to find a local shop that might have a ribbon I can just go pick up and see if it works before I order it and have to wait for shipping.

it could be the harness is comming undone and the power keeps cutting in and out, that happend to one of my hu's

i pulled the unit out and unplugged everything and plugged it back in with no changes so I ordered that repair kit johzp recommended today.

Worked out great for me, took me a little while to install my first time and I lost one of the springs inside around the cd player but the rest wasn't terribly difficult. If you have installed ram on a computer you should be able to figure this out.

Mine is acting the same way and I just replaced that ribbon about 4 months ago. I'm gonna be selling my unit pretty soon, how much do you think its worth? Broken DEH-P9600MP.
