My Subs Only Twitch, whats wrong?

So it sounds like the subs are fine, since they work fine when hooked up to your friend's amp.

If you go to Radio Shack, and buy the cheapest multimeter they have (I think it's $15, digital is preferred, but analog is okay too), that will be sufficient to check the output of the amp, and also the output of the headunit. It will also be needed to properly set the gains, assuming we can get the amp working.

Ok i just took the faceplate off the back of the amp, nothing smells or appears blown......ahhh i dono why it wouldnt work. any ideas? what am i looking for in here that might b blown or broken ?

PROBLEM SOLVED

after 10 hours of screwing around with them...turns out to be a bad RCA cable from the sub to preouts on the deck..oh my gosh...

thanks for all your help guys!

See why I suggested RCA's?

Here's a tip my dad taught me.

When you have a bad output, make sure you have a good input. Before checking the amp, make sure you have a signal going to it. If no signal, make sure there is a signal coming from the HU. If no signal, then theres your problem.

Congrats. You got it working. Now go out and wang on those REs.

yeahhh thanks man

they're surprisingly loud for 200watts rms or whatever they are....my bro has like 600 watts rms and these are way better quality sound and almost as loud

Yeah. You'll find that the audible difference in power levels diminishes as you go up.
Yeah. You need twice as much power (or cone area) just to gain 3 db. So going from say 200 watts to 400 watts would be a noticeable difference. But going from 1000 to 1200 would be much less so. Glad you got everything working, enjoy the bass.
