My SI Magnum D2 Broke!!!

Why would a SSF matter cause I've had this mag for awhile and it has had no problems.
if you have a ported box, your sub will "unload" with tones under the tuning frequency. so if your tuned to 33 hz, when you reach like 25hz or so your sub will unload, meaning, basically exert (sp) past its mechanical limits depending on the note played and volume (volume regulates the power to the sub). if you had this sub for a year and its worked fine, then thats good. but lets say you didnt know and played a new song that had some super low bass, and you had it cranked up, when that note hits your sub will go crazy and just move, possibly past its limit. just cause it worked fine for that long could just mean that you hadnt hit a note that low. again this is just a guess, since we dont know your listening habits.

lamesauce, should i purchase a ssf or replace my amp?
well i would advise to get a ssf if you listen to lots of rap that could have unexpected low bass. but it isnt a complete necessity. if you listen to rock or something of that nature then you probably have nothin to worry about. but again, this is just a guess. we dont know for a fact if this is what caused it. there are a lot of things that could be responsible for this, we just dont have all the info to make anyones opinon into a fact.

Well I usually listen to rock but I was listening to Deathcab For Cutie when it happend and that has alot of bass and sum of it gets kinda low, but not super low like rap. So I dunno. I just kno I hate not having bass and now I don't have any!

I don't think you can just "purchase" a subsonic filter, i mean maybe you can buy most decent quality amps come with them built-in.
yea you can purchase a ssf. its a common thing with the jbl amps since they dont have one. as for even needing one, i heard some rock that got pretty low but i seriously doubt it ever goes into the upper 20hz range. that probably wastnt he issue. my only other possible issue could be that the jbl 1200.1 usually puts out around 1400 watts of power. now thats alright for the mag but you gotta realize that the box is almost twice the reccomended size which makes the mag a lot more efficient. you could have been bottoming out the sub without knowing it if its in your trunk.

Ye it was in my trunk. But the thing is it maybe be getting all that power and whatnot or maybe be bottoming out, but it never really feels like it puts out a massive amount of bass.

yea i just thought about that. its also the nature that the higher you rise above tuning the less excursion you have anyways. so even with lots of power and a bigger box it might or might not make the sub bottom out. so thats 2 things that are probably not the issue. im not sure what it could be, im guessin the glue just happened to finally go. shouldnt be too hard a fix. email nick about it. usually takes a few days and theyll get back to you. at least thats been my experience.
