My RED WIRE ON MY HARNESS DOESNT HAVE POWER, WHAT WIRE CAN I USE INSTEAD?

Like, right now i have my red wire spiced into the constant 12v yellow wire but its on all the time, i only have it hooked up like that right now to see if it was broken or not, what can i use permanently?

Can you clarify which red / yellow wire? From the radio harness....the stock harness...what kind of vehicle...etc etc etc.

Personally if you are looking for a 12v always on source you might need to just get a test light and test which one is always on.

Would be fairly easy to do.

He wants to find a ignition line not a constant line. Red is ignition while yellow is constant.

Key is off....light is off. Turn key on..light is on. Simple

the best fix would be to find out where the factory power wire is broken and repair it.

some may end up calling this a jank idea but this is what I've seen many do and also what I do on older cars like my 79 monte carlo. Splice some wire (same gauge as your red) from the head unit to your fuse box, which unfortunately if your driving a modern car might no be so easy. You should have a fuse for radio illumination. Simply wrap your wire around the tooth of your fuse and plug back in. I don't see any inherent danger in doing this as long as the fuse you plug into has the same amp rating as the fuse in the head unit.

find an empty spot in ur fuse box that comes on when the key is on, run it to the HU. i had to do it because for some reason dodge uses two hot wires all the time, but the factory radio made it so it wouldnt be on all the time, only when key forward or back. pretty gay
