my sub isnt working agen.....the amp and evrything is working but not the sub.........it was working before i got to the pool hall but wen i left it stopped working......the sub never cuts off while the music is playing so i dont know why it does? i checked my wires before so they are all tight........what could be the problem? the sub, amp, wires, or headunit?

May be your tinsle leads. I am guesing it is dual vc but how do you have them wired up? If you have them in series and a tinsel lead goes bad then the sub will start to cut out and/or go dead all together. If you have it in parellel and only 1 tinsle lead goes bad you will have more of a performance issue. Are you sure the amp is recieving a signal? Is the protect light on? try hooking another spkr to amp at a low volume just to see if it will play. Then go from there.

my sub is wired in parallel... the protection light isnt on on the amp so the amp is working fine. whats the tinsle lead?
A tinsle lead is the braided wire that is soldered from the terminal on the speaker (place on the speaker wire hooks up to on speaker basket) to the voice coil. It looks like a little wire dangling on the under side of you cone. If it is a dvc there will be 4 of those and if it is svc there will be 2. Sometimes those start to go bad and loose continuity, Best way to check that is hook each individual vc up to an ohm meter and look for the proper short. Some times when they go bad you can wiggle them around or push in on the cone and they will start working, Of course this is no perm fix by any means. Now you say that the amp is working fine because it show to be on, But are you sure? sometimes the amp will come on and light up like everything is alright but still be bad. So turn your hu way down and hook up a speaker to the amp just to see if it will play. You might want to turn the gains down a bit and all your bas setting off if it is a small speaker. If the test speaker plays then you have either a problem with your sub or a problem with the wireing/conections between the amp and the sub. If the test speaker doesnt play then the problem is either with the amp, the rcas, or the hu preamp signal.

the sub is fine. i think its amp with the problem b/c i tried my brothers sub on my amp and it wouldnt work. my sub started to work this afternoon agen. do you think the rcas to the headunit is loose or something wrong with my amp?... why sould my sub work then not work?

The power supply on your amp might be going bad or something like that. But before you say the amp is bad check and see if it is recieving a signal. Some people do this by hooking the end of the rca's to a set of headphones (instead of the amp) and turning the stereo on and see if you can hear the preamp signal (which will just be the music). Or if you have a meter and know how to test for a signal you can connect the metter to the rca's and turn stereo on to see if it sends the correct voltage (which will be very minimal so you would need a sensitive meter). Or if you know someone that has another amp you can try theirs.

if the ground is bad and the rcas are loose then the amp shoudnt have power........but the amp has power but i guess the sub just isnt getting any?
Have you checked to see if your amp is getting the preamp signal from your hu? It is possible that your amp is bad but you cant say for sure until you isolate the problem. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
