My Kicker 2006 12L7 DVC - 2 ohm Sub Died Today :(

So I am thumping down I-4 with my Hifonic Brutus 1206D and my Kicker 06 12L7 Dvc 2-ohm...and suddenly on a note of a song...my sub completely blew...I have a feeling the voice coil heated up and melted through the cone...

Anybody have any ideas what may have cause this???

I have the 12L7 wired in a 1-ohm load per Kicker's Website. I did this meticulously.

I have the Hifonics Wired in a 1-ohm load per the owners manual.

I have all settings (subsonic, low, bass boost, and level) turned up half-way.

The level setting is turned up a little more than half way, but it is not turned up all the way, so I don't think "clipping" would occur.

Any input is appreciated.

I now have an excuse to buy a new subwoofer. I was thinking Fi Car Audio 12" Sub....just one in a sealed box....Would that sub running in 1-ohm load to a Brutus 1206D, hit hard? If the box is a small, sealed enclosure?.....

What is your box ported to? If you have the subsonic filter set below the tuning of your box you could damage your sub. Also, **** bass boost don't use it.

Box was a small, generic enclosure, slot ported. I think maybe tuned to 45-50hz at the lowest.

Why not? Should you just put it on 0 then?

no, the sub could take 1200rms if played accordingly. bass boost, subsonic, and gain most likely killed your sub.

Combination of gain to 3/4, bass boost, etc.

Setting all the knobs to half way is not the way to setup an amplifier. Bass boost should be 0, subsonic slightly below tuning, and gain set to match your head unit.

prefabs usually give u 4.2db higher than custom

something to consider for ur next install

Too much power over an extended period of time. Clipping doesn't kill subs.

Once you start to smell the coil you need to start turning the volume down until it cools off.
