I currently have a triple chambered sealed enclosure for my subs with .75 cuft of space per driver (I know, tiny. But they sound soo slick.) I'm going to try out a ported enclosure.

Here's what I want to do:

After I rip out my old box, I want to seal off the trunk from the cab. This will include some expanding foam behind the panels. (I know it's messy, but I'm gunna take out the interior of the trunk before I do it. So, I think I should be fine).

I'm then going to make a baffle that covers the whole rear of my trunk where the seats meat the trunk. I'll also make a new shelf cover out of some MDF, to make sure that the trunk and cab are sealed off of each other.

I then want to do a basic ported enclosure, with a single 4" aero that shoots through my rear deck.

It's basic...

But this is my "idea".

I want to use some fans for some exhaust/intake to cool my amps.

So, I want to create a completely separate enclosure for my amps, maybe have a plexi face, with some LED's or something, not sure. Might make it look snazy, might just cover it in carpet and call it a day. I want to put 1 or 2 intake fans (Either 60, 90, or 120mm fans) on my rear shelf, funneled into PVC pipe that goes to the enclosure with the amps, then the exhaust will be the same, with 2 exhaust fans shooting through my rear shelf.

Wire the fans to an ignition source on my fuse box so they'll run when my car's on so my amps don't overheat.

Aye or nay, good sirs?

sounds pretty cool
although.. once u start cuttin up the rear deck, u pretty much gotta go thru with it
I'm not touching the the rear deck in terms of cutting the rear deck. I'm gunna use a piece of MDF or ply to replace the cheap peg-board type material covering the rear deck, then use some sound deadener + expanding foam to seal it off around there, and cut holes through sound deadener + wood for the fan holes and the port hol.

Might as well go ib.
Neg. I don't think my subs would do too well in an IB set-up.

what is the benefit of sealing the trunk up?
Well, when the cab and trunk are sealed off from each other, there's a bigger bass response since there's less space.

(Sorry, I **** at explaining. I just finished 3 huge essays, I'm burnt)

Here's a quick SketchUp... not to scale. The PVC reaching back will probably be longer.

And I'll probably make some sort of shoot for the Fans, so it's not so... boxy.

But by sealing off the two spaces, you are not allowing the created pressure in the the proper space. So int he Trunk it may be loud, but you will not gain alot in the Cabin area.

You will be relying on the abilities of the ports to create volume not the subs.

you also have to consider the ablity of the wavelength and it's abaility to travel though the Vehicle. By "sealing up" the thunk you will invariably limit this to happen there by reducing the volume within the cabin (listening area)

Don't seal your subs away from the cabin and rely on the ports.
Sorry, guys. I guess I didn't explain it well enough.

The subs will not be sealed in the trunk. They will be firing into the cab VIA a hole in the rear. Here's a picture of my current set-up:

(this is the only picture I have)

As you can see, they're behind the seats, but firing into the cabin.

It will continue to do this, except the trunk will be sealed off. The subs will be in the cabin, as will the port.

The only thing I'm doing is not allowing the trunk to pressurize when the cabin does.

Like I said, less air space = more pressure. That's why a lot of trucks can get loud with less.

Or at least that's my understanding.
