My H/U does not work.

My headunit Alpine CDM-9823 stopped functioning today, I've had it installed mabye a year and a half now with no problems. So today I turn on the car and the radio does not turn on. I press the reset buton, but no luck. So I proceed to check the fuses under the hood and there are none blown, then I check all the connections and the fuse behind the head unit itself, and all is fine. So then I decide mabye the head unit is a goner, so I pull it out and put the stock one back in to no avail, even the stock one will not work. The head unit WORKED YESTERDAY, all I did was pull out the old 8 guage power wire for my amp (which had been disconected from the amp for 2 weeks now, not to worry about it grounding out though, as I removed the inline fuse from under the hood), heres what I did step be step; I disconected the ground on the battery, then I disaconected the positive to take off the 8 guage power wire, and I did so, then reconnected the positive and then the negative on the battery. Then I removed the power cable from under the carpet and I was done, didnt think to see if the radio worked or not. The car is a 2003 GMC Sierra Extended Cab. Does anyone have any clue as to why my headunit is no longer functioning? Thanks!

Still sounds like blown fuse, or bad connection/ground.

Connect the HU directly to the car battery and see if it turns on. If it does, then this rules out dead HU. Unless of course your battery is dead..

Nope, battery is not dead everything around the head unit works, Ac, guages, lights, all that stuff. Plus I know its not a dead head unit because I put the stock one back in place and it didnt even work.

I notice you removed the power cable from under the carpet. Maybe by some chance you snagged on one of the existing speaker cables and now it's shorting out? Although I'm not sure this would cause the HU to not power on at all. On my HU a short just makes it so I get no output, but it does still turn on. Who knows, maybe yours acts different.

I actually had the wire running under the floorboards on the side of the carpet, and I pulled up the borads and removed the wires so nothing got caught up.

I see.

How do the connections look behind the HU? Main ones to check are yellow, red, orange, and black wires. Maybe the accessory wire came uncrimped or something, and now it won't turn on when you turn the key. Do you have a wiring harness back there?

Yup, I checked all the connects about 4 times, and they are all fine, plus I plugged the stock HU back in to the stock harnes and it wouldnt even power up.
