if your looking for a crotch rocket then a ninja or an r7 is a good choice, but if you want a harley then go with a sportster or even a roadking.

Okay.. I'll agree with whom ever said to shop for insurance first. Insurance looks for the following main things in determining your quote:

- Bike class (Sportbike, Cruiser, Enduro etc.)

- Engine size

- Financed or Own

- Age

- How long you've had your license (This is a larger factor than most think)

My stepfather pays more for insurance than I simply because I've had my license longer. I'm 21 with a clean record and pay $41/month for liability on a '05 CBR1000RR.

Number two.. Don't listen to that whole "buy a cheap first bike because it WILL go down" crap. It's bullsh*t so long as you develope a respect for the machine. And no, you're not too big for a sportbike, either.

Final suggestion.. Buy something you're obviously attracted to. My first bike the salesman tried steering me toward an SV650. I didn't like it simply because I had my heart set on a full fairing bike. They just looked too ***** for me. So if you're looking for a sportbike I'd highly suggest either a GSX-R600 or a CBR600RR or something of their nature for a few reasons.

1) They are a nice entry level bike, yet won't get boring after you've learned the ropes of sportbikes.

2) They, to me anyway, seem much more comfortable for daily street riding as opposed to it's counterparts (R6, ZX6R, Daytona etc.) But that could just be me.

3) They're the most insurance friendly R-class sportbike you'll find.

Just remember.. These are street legal race bikes. Everything about them is race-bred. The short throttle, the touchy brakes and the fact that you'll have a hair over 100hp between your legs that weighs in well under 400lbs calls for extreme danger when you get stupid with them on the street. 90+MPH comes quick and cars (for the most part) don't give much care to us riders.

All I did was when I bought mine and got my license with an old bike and all my insurance was only 105 fir full coverage and I got mine at age 19.

That brings back memories. My first non dirt bike was a 1989 Ninja 600R. Same

colors and all. I was only 17 and got it not running. I rebuilt the carbs and almost

killed myself many times. I was too young and stupid.

Really, because i have a 98 Sportster. I have never been told that its for women only. Matter of fact, i have been told by many people, all age Harley riders also, that they like what i have done to my bike. My bike happens to be a sleeper, and gives any v-twin a run for its money, minus my fathers v-rod.

I'd definitely get a used bike first. 600 would be fine..

After all, you can just trade in a bike if you want too. Get used to pushing it, understand it, then move to something bigger.

No sense in starting super high up in the engine size department if you can't handle it.
