You guys are horrible at giving advice on a first bike, a first bike WILL GO DOWN, hopefully not at a high speed. Get something cheap and used with decent low rpm torque for your first bike, and if you can find one something with a steel frame instead of aluminum.

I would stay away from the 600cc RR bikes due to your size, and the fact that you will learn faster on a bike that doesn't need to be at 7k+ to pass a car.

I 1000cc RR would be a better fit for you, but just not yet, they have way more power than you need, and to prove that here are some 0-60 times;

At 6'5 and 280, you need a Harley. Actually no, but your size creates issues for you. Like the other poster said, you need to start small, but you are too **** big for anything like a 650, it will feel like a toy to you. Why a sport bike? Maybe look into the ***** bike segment, I have an 07 Suzuki Bandit 1250 that is a very nice sized, big bike.:

Like the other poster said, maybe you should try a used bike first, like an old honda 750, or suzuki 750, still have good power, and decent "sport" feel to it.

i agree that a used bike would be a good idea, i will hit the pavement at some point lol just wat would be a good model to look at, i dont want something 20 years old

I would say any thing from the early 90's on up to late 90's, the newer it is the faster it is(generally) but price also goes up. I don't see why you couldnt get a decent 12 year old 750 for less than 3000, maybe even much less

Too many people with a lack of sack here. Get a bike you want, go sit on a few and test ride a few and see what feels right to you. Don't go buy a scooter because someone on a forum tells you its safer to start out on.

The "a first bike WILL GO DOWN" cliche is easy to throw out there, but not always true, I feel sometimes people just like to regurgitate crap. Are there noobs that ditch their first bike, sure, but not all do.

...and we need the super stunta in here to give his opinion aslong as he's not in prison or working on a bad mortgage...

i'm 17, 18 in july and i got my first bike last fall. used 1998 vulcan 500 ltd. its already gone down once (only the safety course for any non car exp). within the first few times i rode it. i love it and ride all the time. no more mishaps.

If you want a sport bike you might as well go ahead and get it...truth of the matter is at your size anything that you feel comfortable on with the size is gonna haul ***, and really they will all go fast enough to kill you so it really doesnt matter what you get..

if your looking for a crotch rocket then a ninja or an r7 is a good choice, but if you want a harley then go with a sportster or even a roadking.
